Re: Johnny Hockey
What a weird headline and article. The writer makes you want to believe that Johnny showed up at Bjorkstrand's crib and literally threw him out like Jazz at the Bel Air house.

Re: Johnny Hockey
I do like Johnny after all the Flames mismanagement subsided. It does help he that he has been in purgatory Columbus as well. I guess I can get with the vibe.....not everyone is going to be an ultra competitive douchebag. Its all about not being too high and not being too low...live in the moment and enjoy the ride of being well paid and playing a game you love while you can. Not a bad way to live a life.
So props to Johnny for becoming the IIHF USA Hockey points leader......he's got a long ways to go so its his legacy to build there.

Re: Johnny Hockey
Jarmo got the big free agent but didn't surround him with anything good. Boone Jenner at centre?! Laine also hasn't been able to stay on the ice, but he and Johnny didn't seem like a fit.
Next GM will need to find a centre (Fantili?) and triggerman (Demidov?) to get the most out of Johnny.

Re: Johnny Hockey
I don't know who the next GM is (I'm convinced they want it to be Hunter because why the hell else would they be waiting this long!?) but my God they got a mess on their hands. That Lumbus team has no identity whatsoever.
Re: Johnny Hockey
They have a ton of prospects but few that have actually reached their potential. They have a bunch of talented Russians and none of them seem to like being there. They have an AHL calibre coach who wasn't supposed to have the job and is only there because they botched the actual coaching hire. And then there's Elvis, who watched his best friend die and has just been left to twist in the wind. Dating back to Espen Knutsen and that errant shot that killed a girl to Svitov's kid nearly dying in his apartment, this team has been cursed. They need a full cleanup top to bottom.Pokecheque wrote:I don't know who the next GM is (I'm convinced they want it to be Hunter because why the hell else would they be waiting this long!?) but my God they got a mess on their hands. That being said, they have talented players, so the first part of the solution might already here.
Johnny-Fantili-Johnson
Marchenko-Voronkov-Chinakhov
Texier-Jenner-Sillinger
Olivier-Kuraly-Danforth
Werenski-Gudranson
Provorov-Severson
Mateychuk-Jiricek
Tarasov-Greaves
That's not a bad team! This is without Elvis and Laine. I presume they're gonzo.

Re: Johnny Hockey
In a sweet tribute.....Columbus brings in Johnny's old running mate Monny.....hopefully that can turn him around.
Monny is a great story.

Gaudreau brothers killed in an accident. Allegedly a drunk driver hit them while they were riding bikes. They were in New Jersey for their sister’s wedding.

This fills me with rage and sadness
I wish it were safe to ride bikes on the roads.

Re: Johnny Hockey
Two vehicles slowed down and went to the left to pass the Gaudreaus while biking. The third guy, (driving drunk, duh), took this as an indication that the vehlicles were getting out of his way so he sped up ON THE RIGHT SIDE and hit them both from behind.
I get that it was a narrow two-lane rural road with no shoulders or street lights at dusk (8-8:30 PM) and there was risk in them biking at this time. But holy shit that driver should face the maximum charges.
There's a big debate about both drunk driving punishments and cycling safety. I'm not sure this was obviously ever a cycling safe situation, it's tragic but it was an inherently more dangerous road and time of day to cycle/not seemingly a priority to build cycling safe infrastructure either. But if it gets out that this guy has been caught driving drunk before... like why do we never seriously restrict a person's ability to drive after getting pulled over (before hurting someone).
Just awful.

On the eve of their sister's wedding where they were set to be groomsmen and Johnny's wife was going to be a bridesmaid.
I just don't know what to say. Unfathomable tragedy.
That motherfucker better be put away for the rest of his life.

Absolutely horrible. We call the Blue Jackets the hard luck franchise, but this is unimaginable.

Re: Johnny Hockey
Yeah. Of course.Sean Higgins, 43, of Woodstown, New Jersey, was taken into custody on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol, and police charged him with two counts of vehicular homicide, state police said.
Court records also show numerous traffic violations against Higgins, including operating under the influence of liquor or drugs, reckless driving, consuming alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, having an open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, improper passing, and executing an unsafe lane change.
One of these and they should make you retake your licence after at least two years, and insurance rates should spike. Two of these and you should have to sell any vehicles you have and get a permanent driving ban.
But everywhere in North America tolerates this and invites these deaths to happen. You can even be elected Premier of Saskatchewan after doing what Higgins did.

Re: Johnny Hockey
Ohio's about the only state in the union that throws the book at you for impaired driving, and it's not even close to how stringent drunk driving laws are abroad (in Russia, I think you lose driving privileges for life if you get caught more than once).
Even more sad that this fuck was brazenly violating the laws repeatedly and it took a double homicide for him to finally be dealt with properly (at least that's what we all assume). He even had an open container in the car.
The two widows of Matty and John have been posting memories on social media. I just...

Re: Johnny Hockey
This happened in NJ though. The prevailing reason I’ve been told that dui laws are almost toothless is that the gov wants people to keep working afterwards. Fuck them. They usually kill sober, law abiding victims.

Johnny's wife said at the eulogy that she's pregnant with their third child.

I was hoping they wouldn't have to make a bunch of bad trades for cap mules. That wouldn't be right.
