Re: Pierre! (McGuire)
I don't hate Pierre as much as a lot of hockey fans. His first media gig was on CJAD 800 hockey broadcasts in the late 90s and the guy was an innovator then, I learned a lot about the game listening to him. Before that, though, he was an overconfident kid who got laughed out of Hartford. Since then, he's become a caricature of himself. If he's not reciting who everyone's college coach was, he's going on tirades about how dumb stats are. Not a good look for a man who wanted a front office gig in the 21st Century.
But JFresh once suggested (somewhat facetiously, somewhat earnestly) Pierre has no time for stats because he basically remembers everything he's ever seen at the rink. He probably assumes everyone else does, too. So why look at a spreadsheet when it's all in your memory bank?
Good luck to Ottawa. Hope you're getting the good Pierre and not the bad one.

It's comical because Scotty Bowman remembers everything, but still tracks everything he sees and uses the hell out of spreadsheets.E.L. wrote:But JFresh once suggested (somewhat facetiously, somewhat earnestly) Pierre has no time for stats because he basically remembers everything he's ever seen at the rink. Thanks Chuck, E.L. and Harmy!

Thank you Ottawa Senators. Thank you.

Pierre McGuire: "It's not that I hate analytics. I believe in scouting. ... I think it's a tool that can be utilized."
No one is saying throw out the scouts, Pierre. (Only the Astros.) I hope you learn to use all the tools at your disposal.

Re: Pierre! (McGuire)
As someone on Twitter pointed out, guys like Pierre blast the stats crowd because it assails all the old-school notions surrounding "intangibles" that Pierre and other supposed insiders treat as their very exclusive resource. It remains vague so they can draw from it and their assertions can't be challenged.
In the end, this just adds to the very juicy drama machine that is the Ottawa Senators, and it takes Pierre off the air so we don't have to listen to him blather incessantly during the game. This is a win-win scenario for everyone other than Senators fans with an ounce of sense.

Thank you Senators. Thank you SOOOOOO much! I truly appreciate this.
Posting your political views on social media is like sticking your head up your ass & whispering: You're just as likely to change someone's mind, and you'll always come out looking like a shithead.
