What contracts could they dump on the Habs?

Would Montreal just send them to the minors?

Just warm bodies for Laval. No one of consequence. For some reason the Sharks have too many under contract.

The Carey Price Era has officially ended in Montreal.

Headed to San Jose for some minor league dude.

Tidy work for Hughes, who only lost a 5th rounder. Now they’re 4.5M or so under the cap.

Laroque is injured and might never play again, so he’s just paperwork.

This move gives the Habs much more than a Crosby-sized amount of cap room to play with come trade deadline time.

Not a lot of mystery in camp. Not only is the lineup basically set, so are the lines:

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky SET
Laine-Dach-Demidov SET
Anderson-Evans-Gallagher SET
Bolduc-Newhook-????

Competing for the last 2-3 forward spots: Veleno, Blais, Beck, Kapanen, Xhekaj, Roy

Matheson-Dobson SET
Guhle-Hutson SET
Xhekaj-Carrier SET
Struble

Montbes SET

Leafs and Pezzetta were violent in their 7-2 preseason win over the Habs. Not cool. Dobson day to day, Guhle out for precautionary reasons and Reinbacher now out a month with a broken hand.

He’s officially injury prone.

Do you think Dobson is going to flourish or struggle in that market? The level of scrutiny playing in Montreal is prob close to that of Toronto and Dobson was already taking heat this preseason. Is Marty going to tolerate his offensive upside at the detriment to his defensive play?

I think Dobson will be fine, but pairing him with Matheson might be messy.

The theory is that Dobson is elite with moving the puck up the ice but makes beat beats in his own zone. Matheson makes mistakes with the puck but is elite with his speed and can clean up mistakes in his zone. So they could compliment each other. But they’re both big and not physical D who make glaring gaffes, so it could go bad in a hurry.

But Dobson fits the kind of D Marty is looking for: transition game.

I kind of hope Dobson works out because he always seemed like a good dude. But after demanding that kind of money, I kind of hope this all blows up on him. Also for the entertainment value as an outsider. Sorry Habs fans. :D

Florian, Beck, Engstrom the last cuts. They’ll be back soon. Blais and Kahkonen on waivers. Always the plan.

Veleno and Kapanen make it. They’re gonna try Demidov and Kapanen with Newhook, which is a very interesting line.

That leaves Dach and Laine with Bolduc.

I don’t see a fit unless he goes contract year bonkers and scores 40+ and he finds a connection with Dach or someone.

Does Dobson suck? Had a bad camp, but he hurt his groin early and mostly tried to stay out of trouble the rest of the way. He signed a big deal, but one that might not be so crazy as the cap grows. So who knows.

He's a classic offensive d-man. He'll wow people with his stickhandling and playmaking. Then you'll want to throw the remote through the TV as he leaves his man open in front, or makes a play for the puck instead of just hitting the opponent. Been accused of "being soft" by many Isles fans since day 1. If he gets paired with a shutdown defender, it should be okay. If he's paired with another offensive d-man, be prepared for anything. I joked that it wouldn't surprise me to see Dobson get a hat trick, and be a -2 for the game.

Dobson and Bolduc have been the best Habs in the first two games. So far so good.

Wow with all the big money being handed out that is impressive extension for Hutson! Condidering theOilers gave Walman who is 30, 7 years at 7AAV so I would have thought Hutson would have been much higher given his skillset.

Everyone was expecting 9.5/10, so this is coming in under the projections. Really surprising.

Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Guhle, Dobson, Hutson locked in at 47M for the rest of the decade. Demidov next.
