Holy crap...I actually get to make one of these!

Corey Pronman ranks the Avs' farm system 2nd (!!!) in the league.

Avs may also FINALLY have a legit goalie prospect. Justus Annunen just got a contract extension from Karpat (which, if I'm not mistaken, is Jesse Puljujärvi's current team) according to this post from HF User murzu (Finnish dude):

Quote:
Kärpät extended Annunen for two more years, the contract ends 2021-2022.

"Justus is an extremely talented young goalie, whose game has been on a good level both in SM-Liiga and CHL (Champions Hockey League). He is from this area and we wish that he will be our goalie for many years. He has been drafted to the NHL and time will tell when we goes there", sports director/manager (GM of sorts I guess) of Kärpät, Harri Aho told in a briefing.

Looks like Bowen Byram is a lock for Canada's WJC roster, but Alex Newhook was cut.

Bo Byram was not moved at the WHL trade deadline, which means it's sink or swim for the Vancouver Giants, who have had a not-great season based on what I've read. They're likely a first-round exit from the playoffs, which means he could be available for an AHL ATO, which would help the Colorado Eagles immensely.

Alex Newhook, n his freshman season at Boston College, was named the Hockey East rookie of the week after registering three points (G, 2A) as the Eagles split a pair of games against UMass last week.

Newhook, the 2019 Colorado Avalanche first-round draft pick, is tied for eighth among all NCAA freshmen in scoring with 16 points (7G, 9A) in 18 games for Boston College, fourth in the Division One rankings.

The 18-year-old forward (he turns 19 later this month) has at least one point in 10 of his last 12 games.

Article on Eagles head coach Greg Cronin, who appears to be doing quite well in Loveland both in turning the AHL affiliate into a winner and developing talent for the parent club.

Someone on HF ranked the Avs prospects based off of DGB's "universal rankings" and...holy shit.

So...
1. Bryam/Newhook
2. Kaut
3. Ranta
4. Timmins
5. Bowers
6. Werner
7. Zhuravlyov
8. Kovalenko
9. 2020 3rd Round Pick
10. Beaucage

Even the honorable mentions are on point!

Logan O'Connor
Matthew Stienburg
Justus Annunen
Anton Lindholm
Tyler Weiss
Nate Clurman

Avs sign top goaltending prospect Justus Annunen to an ELC.

Nice to see a legit goalie prospect or two in the system. The last time the Avs had a homegrown starter was David Aebischer, and obviously he wasn't wildly successful.

Avs lose former draft pick, Notre Dame forward Cam Morrison, to the Hawks, who just seem to collect college and Euro free agents.

A lot of grumbling was made about the Avs 2014 draft class, which was indeed so disastrous (not one single, solitary NHL player) it cost longtime draft guru Rick Pracey his job. But 2016 was nearly as bad. First pick is Tyson Jost, who has developed into a good-ish 3rd liner. Expectations were way, way higher. Morrison was the next pick at 40th overall...and now they literally get nothing out of it. I think they were hoping for a power forward type, and he's probably going to be more of a 3rd line scoring option. Not a huge loss, but it still sucks, especially because the Avs still kinda struggle with their net-front presence. Morrison was chosen precisely because that's what he brings to the table. I don't blame him one bit for not signing in Colorado--the path to the NHL was a little clearer with a rebuilding team like Chicago.

Now that 2016 draft class has Jost and fifth-round pick, goalie Adam Werner, who is set to be the starter for the Colorado Eagles next season...whenever the hell that's going to be.

Avs have been more reluctant to let European prospects play on loan for overseas clubs than other franchises. They're still not allowing Martin Kaut to do so, even though he's been practicing with his old team Pardubice in Czechia. I imagine they're just waiting, why I'm not entirely sure.
