Not a great deal, but that's life under the salary cap: Pionk is a serviceable defenceman who's relatively inexpensive. They couldn't just move Trouba for futures.
Something cool about Trouba: part of the reason he wanted to return to the US was so his fiancee can complete medical school.

This trade is getting pilloried by those in the know. Pionk's stats are unflattering to say the least.
Cheveldayoff is an interesting trader. I feel he goes for the reliable low-end rather than trying to hit a homerun. He probably thinks he'll get a gradual return with Pionk and the 1st. (6-9 years of replacement level players for one year of a sub-elite guy?)
