30th captain in franchise history. Hope it goes better for him than the last one, although I doubt it.

So how many games does this new captain actually play this season?

I feel like the Habs are still in awe with the Olympic Gold Shea Weber. Is he really a franchise blueliner at 33 after major surgery?

This team is obsessed with who Weber was but is he still that guy?

I saw it mentioned that they are hoping he will age like Chara, but it was pointed out that Weber missed almost as many games last season as Chara has since he turned 30.

Chelios and Lidstrom made it 40 and beyond too, but again, Weber just had major knee and foot surgery.

Habs are a gut team over a facts and numbers one, and I think this belief in Mountain Man Weber being impervious to the elements and able to withstand herculean abuse permeates throughout the organization. There's nothing to suggest any of it is true beyond Weber's imposing physique and presence, which doesn't mean much on the ice. He was quickly broken last season and will miss an entire calendar year of hockey.

Weber might very well play till he's 40 and do a decent job of it, but the Habs are treating it like a sure bet and not like a guess.

This is a silly move and does not help make the trade any better.

The captain is playing his best hockey in the tricolore. After a slow start, he's PPG since Halloween and logging 25 minutes a night. He's finally healthy after missing a calendar year and basically losing two seasons.

His infamous contract runs till he's 40 and everyone just assumes it'll be a mess for Nashville when the time comes to bite the recapture penalty, but like Markov, I wonder if the injury allowed him to save two years of wear on his knees and back, allowing him to play till past his 30s. He's already lost a step and has adapted well enough, so maybe he can be an average defenceman the length of the contract.

I'm not buying the Norris talk yet, but he's definitely found his game again after a few rough years.

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Two points and -6 since Christmas and mostly just eating minutes with Chiarot.
