The Humboldt Crash - death toll up to 16
http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/2306 ... -bus-crash" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Reportedly every single person on the bus was either injured in some fashion or killed.
I won't post it here but the scene of the accident is horrifying. The whole front end of the bus is just...gone.
Horrible, horrible news.

Horrible tragedy. Words seem wholly inadequate in a situation like this.
Bíonn macalla ag an bheatha sa tsíoraíocht. Liverpool FC: 2019 and 6-time Champions of Europe. 2025 and 20 time English Premier League Champions YNWA. JFT 97. RIP Diogo Jota # 20.

Re: The Humboldt Crash - death toll up to 15
Just heartbreaking news
The response has been incredible.
The death toll is at 15 but is supposed to go up to 16. One player is on life support, he signed his organ donor card and they have found matches for the 6 organs that they can donate.
Sign your organ donor cards. Something amazing can be born out of a tragedy.

Unfortunately this also means young Xavier must be in some really awful shape.BREAKING: Coroner's office says they misidentified two victims. Tragically Parker Tobin, previously believed alive, is one of the deceased.
This means Xavier Labelle, previously thought dead by his family, is ALIVE.

I can't look at this at all.

The truck driver responsible for the crash is being deported.
Thoughts? I'm reading a lot of cries that this is far too harsh and is more about revenge than justice, but I'm far removed from this tragedy. It may have been a moment of carelessness but it was a moment of carelessness that's irrevocably altered (or outright ended) dozens of lives.

I can't understand the grief those families have been through, and I certainly understand not wanting to run into the guy, but deportation after he's been in Canada legally seems really harsh. If he was there illegally, I'd get it 100%. But this is a really bad look. Unless there's a clause in the naturalization contract that says if you commit crimes of a certain level you can/will be deported.

Permanent Residency is more than a VISA and less than citizenship. You're a long term (10 year) guest in the country on probationary status. You do anything criminal your PR status can be revoked and you'll be deported.
As far as I'm concerned it should be applied every time to everyone for any criminal conviction. I'm not sure that is how it is done though. Perhaps it is based on wilful criminal behaviour vs negligent. If that's the case he should be allowed to stay. However I can imagine someone sitting at their desk and making that call and the political backlash would be enormous (yeah the revenge factor)

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I assumed he was a naturalized citizen.Fogghorn wrote:Permanent Residency is more than a VISA and less than citizenship.
