The CCHA doesn't like Alabama-Huntsville, but is lining up big time to bring in Penn State, who will be getting a Division 1 program after a donor provided a large amount of money to build an arena this past year.

I could've sworn I wrote a follow-up to this story already. Anyways, here's some bits from the official announcement.
The Big Ten Conference is almost certainly coming. Also, rumours have current DU coach George Gwozdecky in the mix for the coaching gig. Apparently he wants out of his Denver contract. Safe to say that Penn State would be an exciting gig for an American coach.
New rink will likely seat between 5000 and 6000, and there are already plans to host AHL and NHL exhibition games there.
The team will join Div. 1 as an independent in 2012-13, play two years at a different arena, and then move to the new facility for 2014-15, when they will presumably join a conference.

The good news is that if the Big "Ten" (damn well better rename yourselves by next season ya douches) enters, Nebraska might take collegiate hockey more seriously. I believe the Omaha campus has a team, just not a terribly successful one.

Dan Ellis kept pimping Nebraska-Omaha when he tweeted... he was an alumni. Only other current NHLer on their Wiki alumni page (they didn't have Ellis for some reason) is Greg Zanon.
