Yea PITB addresses a bit of that today, pointing out that Rutherford is a temp GM only with a new GM coming in two or three years. Perfect timing for the new guy to put his coach in place. Basically Desjardin would have to win the cup or probably be looking for new employment.

You know the right guy for them might be Crawford, he wouldn't mind a 2 year contract and would relish the challenge. Not that I think he is a great coach but I do think he is not bad either.

If they're just looking for a quick-fix guy the best choice IMO is Ron Wilson. He usually does real well his first year, and then proceeds to alienate his players afterward.

If that's all it takes then Tortorella is their man. Seriously though I'd guess Tortorella is done in the NHL. Have not heard of him being interviewed for any vacancies suspect its off to TV talking head land for him now.

Tortorella vs Milbury would make for entertaining TV stupidity.

Mike Johnston named new head coach. And somehow Rick Tocchet finds his way back onto an NHL bench.

Two rule breakers at once! Johnston was suspended for most of a season for providing extra benefits to Portland players.

Media in Pittsburgh saying that at no point did Rutherford discuss the hiring with Crosby or Malkin.

This sounds like a shitstorm in the making.

Season on the line, an all-time calibre meltdown in effect, and the Pens can't even dress a sixth defenceman because of cap problems.

Jim Rutherford was retired. He should have stayed retired.

Wow, some major shade thrown at Rutherford. Warranted, but their season isn't even over yet!

Pens have to figure out if this team could have won with Letang/Ehrhoff/Maatta or if the problems runs deeper than that. Can't fault Fleury this time.

Those dudes would be a huge upgrade. Their D sucked so bad.

Remarkable they did as well as they did with the scrubs they had.

On Twitter I ripped the Pens for not finding any forwards in the draft since Crosby/Staal. Every year they trade picks for forwards and since Staal they haven't even developed a semblance of a scoring forward. To compare to say, Boston, a team with a similar draft position over that time frame (and excluding the Seguin layup) they picked Marchand, Lucic, Colbourne, Spooner and Pastranak in that time frame. Laugh at including Colbourne, but he's better than the 2nd best non-Staal scoring forward Pittsburgh has taken since then: Joe Vitale.

What is the frickin' deal with David Perron!? Even with the best center talent he's ever played with he's landed himself on the fourth line.

Also some early concerns about Malkin.

Trading a first for Perron was a crazy overpay. He's never been the most fleet-of-foot, so I think he's just a bad fit here.

Well geez, neither is Horqvist. I figured slower players were okay with Sid since he may be a good skater but gets it done battling down low.

Well I'll be damned. After being the guy who seemingly made all the wrong moves, Jim Rutherford gets to notch his name on the Stanley Cup for a second time.

Everything worked. Kessel, Bonino, Hagelin, and even Justin effin' Schultz became major factors when it mattered most.
