Ha! The same thing that happens at Uluru in Australia, they even have a display of people's letters at the museum/tourism centre there. I didn't take anything from there, but I did grab a rock from King's Canyon (same area) for who knows why. The Aboriginies of the area don't claim that there is bad mojo/curse if you remove rocks from Uluru, they just simply say 'don't do it, the site is sacred to us' which quite frankly is all I need to hear.

There were some minor earthquakes at Leilani Estates (just south of the flow) yesterday as well (2.5 I believe).

I never removed rocks from any island but its not related to superstition just respect for the native culture (like Sask says). I did run barefoot across them one time and I forever earned north shore local respect. Taking rocks is a haole thing anyway.

I love how taking the rocks give you bad juju, but buying them for $25 from the airport gift store is ok.

The first house was claimed on Monday, if you've been following the maps it was the house across from the transfer station, furthest from the town proper. The owners could never get insurance for the place due to lava flow risk. That's $200k just gone. And they still didn't do things like take down the satellites on their roof even though there was plenty of time to do so. I don't get it.

The Transfer station is currently getting surrounded as the lava fills the drainage ditches that surrounded it. Upslope from the station is a massive new breakout that will make the second path the lava can take to get to the front, or even create a new front.

Apparently there was a disruption over the weekend, and breakouts well upslope of Pahoa has diverted a lot of the lava flow away from the front. This doesn't mean the town is safe, but for the time being there is no new lava being fed into the area near the village. They expect it to resume in time.

This is slow motion disaster at it's finest.

Basically, the old flow stopped, and new one is forming adjacent to the old flow. Based on how long it took the last lava flow to make it to the town, it's likely over a month away from threatening Pahoa again. This new lava flow is directly to the north/west side of the previous flow. The previous flow is now just new earth/topography that's guiding the lava that's coming down.

Meanwhile, back in the town, the main road that had been shut down for a month is open again, life is returning to a level of normal. Just one less house.

I feel a disruption in the Force. Two Cali sitings in a one month time span.
