Do you remember why Stall asked to be traded? Was it cap related or was it personal, i.e. he wanted to play with his brothers in Carolina?

If your memory is anything like mine as you age, well as you know all our recall is iffy. :D Best I recall the Pens offered the money he wanted, he just wanted to go to Carolina to presumably play with his brothers. It was the fit not the $

I thought it might be that he wanted a bigger role somewhere else than he had in Pitts being stuck behind Crosby and Malkin. I don't remember much about the dollars, but it seems like Pitts would really have been up against it adding Staal's contract to the list of big $ contracts that they had.

They offered Staal the same money Carolina gave him. It wasn't the money, he wanted to hit free agency and likely play with one of his brothers. Carolina stepped up, he signed quickly.

Skip, who is suggesting that Chicago will buy out Hossa? Chicago has already used both of their compliance buyouts so they can't buy him out without a cap penalty. Hossa is 35, but is still an elite wing and well worth his money. They have Bickell on the books for $1.275 mil less than Hossa, and he has a modified NMC so I would say that he gets moved before Hossa goes anywhere.

It was in Capgeek.com as one of the 10 big buyout targets. I have no idea how much credence it has. Truthfully it kind of stunned me. I rather thought Chicago was pretty much locked into Hossa.

This list? I think this is just the most popular searches, not top targets.

Edit- Only Shero fired. TSN changed story.

On Montreal radio yesterday, McGuire said after a very long pause (a good 20 seconds) that Shero was extremely loyal. As in, too loyal to deal Fleury or make front office changes to improve amateur scouting.

And yeah, it would be quite the paycut for Pat Brisson to take the gig. But can you put a price on glory?

Yeah. Kind of mean in a way.

Pens need a toughie to ride with Syd so people stop taking shots at him and he doesn't have to dive all over the place. Ought to trade for Downie or some business. If that guy had a meathead like Milan riding shotgun he'd be unstoppable.

I think Downie is actually smaller than Crosby, and WAY more injury prone. I doubt he'll be NHL material much longer.

The notion of a tough guy acting as a deterrent for cheap shot artists is a bit of a myth. If Pittsburgh wants to help Crosby, they have to get a better bottom six so that the opposition can't just key in on him.

Jason Karmanos to the Pens. I didn't realize that his Dad fired him last year.

Willie Desjardins pulled a Chuck Testa and said "Noooooooooope" to Rutherford and the chance to coach Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Yikes. How do you manage to fuck up the pitch that badly?

Hopefully because he had a better offer from the Nucks. However according to Linden he is meeting with him this weekend so its unlikely he has a firm offer yet maybe just ball parkish. My guess is Rutherford tried to play a bit of a gambit and put an offer forward and said take it or leave it. Desjardin probably asked for time to hear out the Canucks side and when Rutherford wouldn't accept it they both moved on.

I read that it was a two-year offer, he wouldn't have any input on front office moves and wouldn't be allowed to hire his own assistants. Rutherford is more arrogant than I thought if he thought the lure of coaching Sid and Geno alone was enough.

Yea PITB addresses a bit of that today, pointing out that Rutherford is a temp GM only with a new GM coming in two or three years. Perfect timing for the new guy to put his coach in place. Basically Desjardin would have to win the cup or probably be looking for new employment.

You know the right guy for them might be Crawford, he wouldn't mind a 2 year contract and would relish the challenge. Not that I think he is a great coach but I do think he is not bad either.

If they're just looking for a quick-fix guy the best choice IMO is Ron Wilson. He usually does real well his first year, and then proceeds to alienate his players afterward.
