They asked Ovi's opinion but he never responded. The note was left in the defensive zone.

Potential candidates for the GM spot.

http://www.csnwashington.com/hockey-was ... n-capitals

Interesting that Craig Billington is on this list...I suppose he'd get some consideration given he has a bit of history (emphasis on "bit") with the franchise.

Of those candidates I'd probably go with BriseBois. He's the guy the Habs should've hired instead of Bergevin.

A replacement-level team with Ovi and Backstrom would logically be a pretty good team, no?

Too many half-assed attempts at secondary offence on this team. They need more hard nosed guys to make up for Ovi's shortcomings.

But Jay Beagle uses his whole ass!

Joel Ward and and Troy Brouwer hit 24 and 25 goals...aren't they supposed to be the hard-nosed guys? They also have Grabovski.

If anything the Caps got too hard-nosed. Way too many grinders. They need more skill. Letting Semin go for nothing was a huge mistake. At least they finally got Kuznetsov to come over...maybe now, finally, they'll have the answer they need for scoring depth. Getting Penner was an inspired move as well, even though Oates was too dumb to realize it.

That D needs an upgrade though. Green/Alzner/Carlson/Orlov ain't quite cuttin' it.

And whatever you do, hire back the old goalie coach before you hire anyone else.

Brooks Laich fell off a cliff as a player, too. He's not what he was when they were good. Trading Perreault was nearly as stupid as trading Forsberg.

People make fun of Ovechkin for being one dimensional, but Brouwer is just a really poor man's Ovi, he's even more useless when he's not putting the puck in the net.

Ward is alright. Grabovski is good, Johansson is decent and Backstrom/Ovi are still excellent. There's some pieces but they've jettisoned so many others for nothing and misused others and basically lost Laich as well.

The D is similar, Green has actually quietly rebounded the past year or so, seemingly over his injuries but obviously won't be a 30 goal guy again unless their system opens up big time.

What's Johanssen like as a player? I didn't put him in the hard-nosed group because I wasn't sure.

You're definitely not hard-nosed when you look like one of the Super Mario Brothers.

Ward, Grabo, Brouwer, Johansson, Fehr, Erat/Penner all strike me as streaky one-dimensional scorers.

Oh boy.

"I know what I'll do! I'll hire two guys that ran two different franchises into the ground!"

Oh boy, when I read what you wrote and before I clicked on the link, first name that popped into my head was Doug MacLean.

Holy. Fuck.

Didn't MacLean run two franchises into the ground by himself?
