LaFontaine said he'd have a GM in 2 weeks. He just didn't say which 2 weeks he was talking about. Could be one in June 2014 and one in August 2017.

Just read the Linus Omark experiment has come to an end. On $125 waivers for the purposes of a mutually-agreed upon buyout.

Eh, it was worth a shot.

Is he really that bad? Or did he have a bigger contract than he deserved? His numbers don't look terrible. Off ice issues? What's the deal?

Basically he refused to report to Rochester and so the Sabres told him to get lost. He had similar issues in Edmonton, though he finally accepted demotion there.

I imagine the Buffalo fire sale will begin in earnest once the roster freeze is lifted.

Yeah I saw that after posting. But he's got a 0.5 ppg average. Not exactly horrible for a 4th round pick. I'd think someone could use a player like that. Unless he's a prima dona for some reason.

He's definitely more confident about his ability than other people who haven't been able to stick in Edmonton and Buffalo consecutively.

That said, I think he can play, the NHL just has a hard time using him on a bottom six role.

Gotcha. I thought it might be something like that. I'm was surprised nobody picked him up, but that makes it all make sense.

And just like that, LaFontaine is gone. Again.

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu ... --nhl.html

Apparently the breaking point was Miller. LaFontaine wanted an extension, Murray wanted a trade.

I'm reading on @Hope_Smoke that LaFontaine wasn't being entirely genuine conducting interviews, was instead garnering tips on how to be a GM, and wanted someone with no experience he could influence. In essence, he wanted a capologist and little more.

Well, that'll do it for Pat working for NHL clubs now. I can't imagine him getting hired by anyone else now. The Isles resignation appeared to be justified, this one just looks plain bad.

Pfft. Sounds like he took his business leadership lessons from Wang. All he wanted was a Yes-man. When he didn't get what he wanted, he bailed. I guess Wang would fire everyone else instead, but the Buffalo owners probably like the rebuild approach.

And maybe his banishment from the Isles is a little more warranted than originally let on. His 2nd short stint with one of his former teams certainly doesn't shine a nice light on him.

"Dear NY Rangers, I'm available for employment, for a 1-3 month duration..." Patty, #16.

It sounds like he was promised final say on all transactions, so when he was essentially overruled by Murray on the Miller trade, he walked.

The only way this President/GM thing works is if the president hires the guy and stays out of his way, focusing on the business aspects of the franchise, like Robitaille in LA, Davidson in Columbus, etc.

Right, which is what LaFontaine hated about Wang. Only difference is LaFontaine is Pres, not owner.

Apparently Ted is royally pissed and made it known at his presser. Wouldn't be surprised if he were gone as well.

Pissed that LaFontaine left, or that Miller was traded? He & Snow agreed he should leave the Isles because the Isles wanted to keep rebuilding, where Ted wanted a "win now" team put together. If the Sabres are going back into rebuild mode, he may leave even though he's finally gotten another NHL opportunity.

He seemed very emotional about Patty's departure, and intimated that it probably affects his future with the team. Murray and Black had their own presser and Murray said he wants Nolan there, but only if Nolan wants to be there. Seems very contentious right now. Doubt Nolan stays at this point.

For what its worth, Matt Barnaby said right after the LaFontaine departure that Nolan was next. Also said Patty was definitely fired.

This seems unnecessary.

http://www.buffalonews.com/columns/mike ... d-20140302

Quote:
LaFontaine, of course, dealt with concussions during his playing career. Now that he’s out the door, there’s talk of outbursts with staff and a lack of willingness on LaFontaine’s part for any sort of compromise.

“I don’t have any concern about Pat’s mental state,” said Black, who seem mortified by the questioning of it.

Nolan, through no fault of his own, is embroiled in another drama, and on the day the presser was SUPPOSED to be about his contract extension.

Sounds like a shitty place to work right now. Time to read the writing on the wall and get out of dodge. Nolan needs to be canned just as part of damage control.

Thank goodness its not my team this year!

Saw that Pegula gave LaFontaine the remaining 95% on his contract (!) in exchange for silence on the issue. WTF happened that his silence was bought with that much left on his contract?

Probably has a date where he's allowed to speak, and then profit off the book he writes about his leaving the Isles & Sabres. Maybe that's all he wants; to sit around the fire writing his tumultuous memoirs in his 60s, and he's taking/quitting all these front office jobs to fill chapters.

So LaFontaine's front office resume now looks like this:
New York Islanders- Advisor to owner, 40 days
Buffalo Sabres- President of Hockey Ops, 108 days.

Guy has 4.3x as many NHL goals as he does days in office.
