Not the Pancake Legend, mind you, but where his NHL career. You get it now.

Anyhow, I was curious to see what those compensatory picks ended up being when Anaheim chose not to match Edmonton's offer sheet way back when. It ended up being a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder in the 2008 draft.

The first rounder saw the Ducks trading down with the Kings, who then flipped the pick to the Sabres, who ended up selecting Tyler Myers. The Ducks picked Jake Gardiner five slots later.

With the second rounder, the Ducks used their extra pick to select...Justin Schultz. How sucky is it that he ended up in Edmonton anyway!?

The third rounder (Kirill Petrov)...well shit, I'll just let Wikipedia explain:

Quote:
The Edmonton Oilers' third-round pick went to the New York Islanders due to a trade on February 19, 2008, that sent Marc-Andre Bergeron to the Ducks in exchange for this pick.

Earlier, this pick temporarily went to the New York Islanders due to a trade on February 18, 2007, that sent Marc-Andre Bergeron and this pick to the Islanders in exchange for Denis Grebeshkov.

Edmonton reacquired this pick due to a trade on July 5, 2007, that sent Anaheim's second-round pick in 2008 to the Islanders in exchange for Allan Rourke and this pick.

The pick was then, along with first and second-round picks, awarded to the Anaheim Ducks due to Anaheim's decision not to match an Oilers' offer sheet to restricted free agent Dustin Penner on August 2, 2007

Grebeshkov recently made news for being so bad in the KHL this season he was traded to one of the suckiest teams in the league.

So really, in the end it's like the whole thing never happened, right?

Haha that is great that one of the picks was Shultz who ended up in Edmonton anyway.

So far Penner has been the steal of the offseason.

Incidentally, is David Clarkson a similar player? Penner has an amazing shot, haven't really seen enough of Clarkson to know if he does as well.
