Let's hope Chuck and the King never meet.

I can attest that I would never risk laughing at Jay. Butch...maybe. But not Jay.

I'll be honest, the one personalized jersey I think I had the biggest problem with was an Avs 3rd jersey with a #50 Willsie on it. Willsie!? Brian frickin' Willsie!? You pick one of the worst Avs of all time? That's worse than someone wearing a #71 Brisebois! :fry:

On Puck Daddy, they have an ongoing debate over "jersey fouls". Probably the most hilarious one was a Penguins #71 "Maklin" jersey. They also rip apart Frankenjerseys (two teams cut up, sewed together for one player, like Bruins/Avs "Bourque" jerseys and some Carolina/Pittsburgh mashed "Staal" jerseys), as well as ones that put baseball or football players on a hockey jersey.

It's been a while since I've been to Jersey City. I wonder if they have a bunch of Mike Green jerseys on display. I think I'll mash up a Redskins and Huskies jersey and put 52 Green on it.

I take it you mean U Saskatchewan here, because I'll admit I read that as a double-Washington (not the same Washington, mind you...)

Yes. And actually, a Wizards/Huskies mash would be better... I'd get to call the team the "Wizkies".

my father in law got me and my son personalized jerseys with 66 77 and our last name. Th e best part was going to a moose\canucks autograph signing and all the young guys trying to figure out who the canucks had signed.

Greg Wyshynski had an article a few years ago about putting a player's name on the right team jersey from the wrong era:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_d ... nhl,114470

Image

This blogger had a retort which I thought was fair enough:

http://www.billyramirez.com/?p=179

Check out the jersey he describes as "inexplicable".

Yeah I remember putting Bourque on a Team Canada jersey around 2001 or so not realizing the design had changed since 1998. It looks a little silly but I think I wore it during my brief visit to Vancouver and no one gave me any flack about it. Well, Cali did since I was looking a bit traitorous, but no one got on my case otherwise.

Whoa...that's just wrong.

And WHAT in God's name is up with that purple one!?!?

I don't suppose everybody shits $200 for a personalized jersey. I know it took me years to save up for a Cam Neely Jersey.....I finally got one in 99 and by that time they had changed the Boston Jersey a bit.

Likewise by the time I got around to actually affording Flames Jersey's I was stuck with Jeff Shantz, Oleg Saprykin, Hnat Dominichelli, Sandy McCarthy, or Cale Hulse. Fuck that! harmfuljays is a way better option as I certainly won't be traded for money and I don't fall off wagons too easily.

I am still trying to figure out why I bought that horse head jersey though. :colbert:

I personally think its kind of flattering to the old guard that People even still remember them enough to put their names on them. I think it would be nice for places to offer Retro jerseys (the right time frame) with Popular player names on them.

At least there's no HEHATEME. Leave the hockey fashion war to Sean Avery.

I completely agree with Harmy on this last point. I would sooner don a #21 Lumme in the current colors than risk getting one with a player who lasts two seasons. I think the Hunter jersey in Wyshynski's piece actually looks pretty neat.

Even better is the other way around, I think -- if you could find someone who could stick Gretzky on the purple and yellow or Daniel Sedin on a skate-era jersey, I say go for it. Enough teams are wearing their retro jerseys anyway that it's decreasingly less weird.

To be clear, it's an allusion to Clark Griswold from the Vacation series.

Excellent assesment Tuzer. This is the type of discussion that occurs during the lockout when we've exhausted every scenario of Leafs winning the cup when play resumes.

PS.....thank goodness I didn't get that Phaneuf jersey like I wanted................
