Hellebuyck publicly on the get me out of Canada list

Post by harmfuljays »

US Players continue to want out of Canada. As I've said before I would steer clear of US Born players if I was a Canadian team. For many reasons, exposing any different views or controversial support is ill advised north of the border. The atmosphere is just too volatile right now.

When does Kyle Connor get on the train? Will Auston Matthews survive the year?

He signed an eight-year, US$59.5 million extension with Winnipeg in October 2023. He's under contract through 2031 at a salary cap hit of $8.5 million.

Hellebuyck drew criticism last season after attending a White House reception hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump following the Americans' Olympic victory.

Trump announced at the reception that Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The goalie later said he had no regrets about attending but was upset by criticism directed at his wife, Andrea, and other members of his family.

"The blowback that my wife was getting is just not fair," Hellebuyck said in March. "I don’t understand how she can take so much heat for just being with me as a hockey player. We’ve done nothing wrong, she’s done nothing wrong, my kids have done nothing wrong, and everyone in my family is happy.
One must imagine sisyphus happy

Winnipeg should've taken the Buffalo offer at the draft: 4th overall, Quinn, UPL.

Would've nabbed a future top dman, a second-line winger and a decent 1G replacement. They won't get that now unless there's another guy with a trade request Chevy can pounce on.

Hellebuyck for Nikishin/Kotkaniemi is the other thing I can think of.

From what I understand, Buffalo offered the 4th overall pick but also wanted Winnipeg's 10th overall pick in addition to Hellebuyck. I can understand the Jets balking on that. It's possible Chevy is overvaluing what he can get in return but he probably thinks he can do better than that. We'll see. It's gotta be a team in the US that has need for a goalie. Oh and it's gotta be one that doesn't suck AND has enough cap flexibility to take him on. That's basically Buffalo, Carolina, and maybe Vegas.

On a side note, I remain so fascinated how the Team USA Olympic gold run disrupted the NHL so much. It led directly to Hellebuyck and Larkin very publicly requesting a ticket outta town, and Guerin just happened to be the GM who traded for Quinn Hughes as well.

Hughes and the wild is a deal that’s not aged well…

Yet.
