World Cup 2026

Post by Fogghorn »

Have we never ever had a soccer thread?

Huge news for Canada, Alphonso Davies, the top player for Canada, has recovered from his latest injury and has been declared ready to play for Canada today vs Qatar.

I used to watch the World Cup. Couldn't care less this year. And the traffic it's causing in the NY Metro area is sucking dog balls. Screw FIFA.

What the hell did Bosnia ever do to you or anyone for that matter?

6-0 whooping on Qatar, Canada in top place in their group. Need a win or tie vs Switzerland next week to take the top spot in their groupl

And yes I absolutely despise FIFA, as much as I do the Olympics. Corrupt fucks. But its here, and won't hold FIFA against the Canadian mens team.

Bosnia?

Dunno.

they seemed pretty dirty against Canada.

but the canadian mens team?

Pretty fun to watch.

If Canada gets knocked out, I still like Argentina.

And my 'dark horse team is Senegal.

Bosnia is the one European Muslim country. I don't think you intended it this way at all but think about what your list of hated countries has in common? Besides Bosnia did Canada a huge favour knocking off the Italians. Otherwise we'd have them in Group B instead of Bosnia.

I like Senegal.

Senegal, 96% Muslim, no sharia, and freedom of religion where the Muslims can't get enough of christmas and the christians aren't second class and celebrate Ramadan?

More of this please.

But Bosnia?

It's not because they are muslim.

It's the I wish I could watch Tony's head explode not knowing who to root for.

would love to run down college st in toronto with canada flags if we kicked italy's arse and laugh at all the crying italians...

Because they love football so much and I love being a prick that much.

Rooting wholesale for Korea and Scotland, though both lost 1-0 in the second round, not quite eliminated yet. Korea SHOULD advance. The Tartan Army is making quite the name for themselves in the US.

Also pulling for Iran for obvious reasons.

Canada loses 2-1 to the Swiss. I tie would have given them a opportunity to stay in Vancouver for the next round, and meet a much easier opponent. Its really too bad, as they deserved a tie, pretty even game, Swiss controlled more of the play, but Canada out chanced them by quite a bit.

Canada was missing their best striker, best mid fielder, and best defender as well as their 2nd best mid fielder for 70 minutes of the game. All things considered, it was a good showing.

Wow, I assumed South Korean would beat South Africa and be Canada's opponent in Los Angeles. Nope, big upset, 54th ranked South Africa knocked them off. This is actually a really good outcome for Canada.

If they win, perhaps Alphonso Davies might be ready for the group of 16.

Ok...its either this or mid-season baseball. Watched the Mexico game last night.....some observations......Futbol has no commercials to disrupt the game flow. Lots of dudes flopping all over.....can't figure out what's real and what's pretend......absolutely no fatboys with all that running....crowds are insane.

The acting drama of soccer is such a turn off, worst part of the game.

Well Canada lost 3-0. It sounds far worse than it was. They out chanced the Atlas Lions in the first half, but once they were down a goal in the 2nd, they needed to take risks to get the equalizer. And they paid for those risks.

They beat South Africa and Qatar who they should beat, they lost to the Swiss and Morocco who they should lose to and they ties Bosnia who they should have beaten. All in all they performed to expectations. There is a wish on my part they could have had their two best players in Kone and Davies playing for them, but injuries. Canada doesn't have the depth to easily replace star players, and I think those two could have made a difference in their losses.

US proves an easy out for Belgium. It was far worse than the score indicated. The difference between a good team and an ok team.

All NA teams now gone.

IMO Soccer needs to fix the rolling around on the ground.

Adopt some hockey rules...let the dude lay there until his team gets possession and then make him leave the field for a designated amount of time. That should stop all that flopping and diving.

Until then this just isn't a sport I can watch with any regularity...or would I pay to see it.
