Honestly, there is no way I could fuck up as bad as these guys if you handed me a generational talent AND a super-elite scorer and told me to build a winner around them. There's simply no way.

Would I fuck it up? Yes, but not this bad.

I was having this convo with a guy Wed night who played in the ECHL and worked for a few NHL teams, knows tons of NHL/AHL execs/scouts. He said in 99.9% of cases fans think they can do a better job but would cause irreversible damage. I asked about the Oilers and he said "that's why I left that 0.1%".

Babs to the Oil - let's go!

Wonder if The Bett-man will let him back into the NHL?

Likelihood = 99%, if for no reason other than to protect his precious Gold Plated Knights.

Bowman and Babcock.............this organization does gravitate towards the worst human beings. Part of me thinks they must have run this by McDavid. Can't seeing them hiring someone he does not approve of when the clock is counting down on his contract renewal.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/nh ... a-request/

Frank Seravalli reporting that the PA said there were even more things Babcock did apart from the whole "gimme your phone" ridiculousness that was not publicly known. And according to him it's much more serious.

Absolutely pathetic levels of desperation from the Oilers, far worse than when the Blue Jackets tried and failed with him after mere weeks. It may not even get to that now.

Agreed. Chasing Babs just because he one a cup 20 years ago. Personally I love seeing Oil burn like this, but even this is a step too far. The Oilers have a history of convincing themselves that talent outweighs character concerns even when it doesn't.

What I find hard to discern is that nobody in that organization paused and asked, “Why are we creating this distraction for ourselves?”

Makes me wonder more about Katz and the front office than the players themselves.

Well Torts is available now. He's got character issues too.

Babcock cleared to coach the Oilers. I’d imagine McDavid and Draisaitl ok’d this. Feels like desperation time in Edmonton, but maybe that’s what they need.

No WAY were 29 and 97 not consulted before this. No sympathy when this inevitably goes south.

Haven’t heard the presser but I read that he dodged the question about Johan Franzen like Neo in the Matrix.
