No surprise turns out Radko Gudas is still a POS and takes out Matthews with a deliberate knee on knee hit. Id be shocked if Matthews isnt done for the season. Sad that no Leafs players on the ice went after him directly after the hit then Gudas was tossed with a GM. However after the Leafs flipped a switch and played their most entertaining game in months. Even Floater threw a hit! Cowan dropped the gloves after NickyRobby was hit from behind, no doubt feeling bad after he didnt do anything after Matthews went down. Leafs shockingly snap the 8 game losing streak.

Even the 32 Thoughts guys took Nylander to task. He seriously said he didn't see it!?!?

Okay, now even I'm starting to turn on that guy. At least Mo Rielly admitted he should've gotten in there right away.

Leafs won but as you could imagine, Dangle was, to put it mildly, upset.

To quote him, March 30th, when the Leafs and Ducks meet again, there is no puck. He doesn't care if they lose 9-0, he wants blood.

Normally I can't stand this aspect of hockey but y'know what? Even this unmanliest of men thinks Toronto needs to sack the fuck up.

Rielly apologized later but also said "Oh, I didn't know it was quite that serious," are you fucking kidding me!?!?!? He's LAYING there on the ice! Fuckin' GO, Mo!!!!

I think I've concluded my analysis of the Leafs: Everybody gotta go.

Blow it up. Get rid of EVERYONE. This core is not good enough, they don't have the skill, the durability, and they most certainly don't have the heart. Enough. End it. Rip it down to the studs. Trade EVERYONE. Maybe not Knies depending on what he wants to do, maybe keep guys like Cowan and other youngsters, but the vets? Gone. Get the fuck out.

Will this happen? Of course not, but they're just throwing good money after bad now.

Gudas gets 5 games. Mathews' agent calls it laughable and preposterous. He's right. Gudas has been a scumbag for years. He can keep doing it because the DoPS is a joke.

I hope McCabe absolutely hammers Gudas the next game. I think he is the only one that could on this team regardless of Mo coming out and falling on the sword for not doing anything on ice when it happened. Regardless if its the Leafs or not judging from reaction around the league he will get his karma.

I don't understand this 5 games. Gudas is a modern day ulf samuelsson. Should have been 10-15.

Was Matthews in limited compete mode? Sure, but still don't want to see this happen. Sadly, I have seen more of these oops I stuck out my leg plays this year. These hits have no place in the game.

Here's a clean video without that weird Dangle guy

Far and away Matthews’ worst season in Toronto comes to a premature end. Didn’t even crack 30 goals.

In a weird way, I think this opens the door for Auston to continue his career in Toronto. You can sell the hope that he’ll be healthy next year. If he slumped his way to the finish line, I think the stink would’ve been hard to brush off with the fanbase.

You are not off here, I thought the same thing. Like he was one soft breeze from a season shut down anyway. This gives everyone a cool down period.

Quite the eventful day in Leafland.

Brad Treliving fired the same day the Leafs are set to play the Ducks in the Auston Matthews revenge game.

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/maple-le ... rd-season/

Now, for the game...

Radko Gudas was questionable to play, and probably would've sat out otherwise, but flat out said he was going to play to answer the bell, and to his credit he did. Threw down with Domi and didn't throw any punches. I didn't see any of the game but I believe he got jumped a couple more times.

As for the game itself, the Leafs came back and won 5-4 in OT.

So there. I guess justice was done. That loss becomes especially costly for the Ducks because they lost both Leo Carlsson and Gauthier.

Brendan Shanahan's legacy will ultimately be a dark one. He did a great job of resetting the culture and bringing in people to finally turn things around and FINALLY get the organization to embrace the tank. But he also became indecisive at exactly the wrong times, when he kept Lou Lamoriello in about a year too long and he did Lou Lamoriello things to the cap situation, or when he barred Dubas from firing Mike Babcock and then ended up having to fire him two months later, or when he had one last chance to get a good return on Mitch Marner before his no-trade kicked in, he instead wasted that time firing Dubas and bringing in Treliving, and then effectively getting fired himself the following season.

The one defense I have of Treliving was that he was put in extremely tough situations both in Calgary and in Toronto. Regardless, he is a bad GM who made terrible moves in both places that ran two separate Canadian franchises into the ground.

Wonder what the reaction would be if he really was named to the Leafs front office?

It's funny to see the ripple effect across the league after Toronto failed to step up after the Gudas knee-on-knee. You got guys on other teams going out of their way now to stick up for teammates. No one wants the egg on their face that guys like Cowan, Nylander, and Rielly got in the wake of that.

I would absolutely LOVE for a team to possibly tank a season by hiring one of their most outspoken critics like a Dangle. Sit back and see how they handle all sorts of situations. Contract negotiations, trades, coach hire/fire... It would be the greatest "reality TV" ever. Then make them go through comments online about themselves to see how they're doing according to the fan base. It would be a #1 hit for sure. The team might be set back a few years in the standings, but they'd rake in money. I'd pay very close attention to that team for that season and probably another few, just to see how a real GM would fix things afterwards. Or, who knows, we just might see some outspoken loudmouth make a decent GM. I think the Leafs have a better shot at winning the Cup this year than that happening, but it could happen.
