Steve Staios has been appointed General Manager and President of Hockey Operations; Dave Poulin joins the team as Senior Vice-President, Hockey Operations; Ryan Bowness has been appointed the team’s Associate General Manager.

Poulin!
Poulin is by all accounts a very well-liked guy who talks the game well, though IIRC the last time he was part of a front office was in Toronto under JFJ. That said, he obviously knows the game.

Staios naming Staios GM reminds me of that one episode of The Office where Dwight holds an Olympics-like event to determine who his Number Two will be and Jim rigs it knowing full well that Dwight will just end up picking himself.

Poulin was under Nonis with Loiselle the "cap guy", when they signed Clarkson to the buyout-proof contract.

Well...hopefully he's learned since then. Nonis was a transcendently bad GM, and I think he'll get another shot someday. Like Chiarelli, he has impeccable connections within the game.

Michael Del Zotto apparently had some not-so-nice things to say about the Sens organization behind the scenes, but I just don't know how much of his shit you can take seriously.

Pinto signed for 1 year, $775k.

That could go toward one hell of a parlay.

Had one good season when Quinn Hughes showed up, immediately went back to shitting the bed. Just the guy to turn this sinking ship around!

Sens gonna Sens: they wanted Berube, couldn't meet his contract demands, so they turned to Green and gave him four years instead of the industry standard three.

And they said quite clearly that he was going to be head coach for the full length of the deal, which you just know is gonna come back and bite them harder on the ass than Marv Albert.

The Senators have a big choice to make. Do they forfeit the 7th overall pick as punishment for trading Dadonov, or do they roll the dice on 2025 and 2026?

I know the chances of falling apart and getting either Hagens or McKenna are low, but you don't want to be the team that gave away a franchise altering player for a Sam Dickinson type.

I say take the L now and move on from the Dorion era.

I say get it over with too but...I don't think they will.

Maybe they do what the Devils did when they had to forfeit a pick. They held out and somehow managed to get a compensatory first rounder to soften the blow. And like Ottawa, that involved a new owner who had absolutely nothing to do with the "infraction" in question.

Nice bit of work for GM Staios, dealing the underwater Korpisalo contract (with $1M retained) to Boston for a year of Ullmark.

Of course, astute hockey fans already see Kastelic as a big man Boston can mold into a solid player. Underrated asset in the deal.

Ullmark isn't saying no to re-signing, either. So I think if they shore up the defence, they can convince him to stay if the price is right.

Sens extend PTO offers to defenseman Calen Addison and...forward Nikolay Kulemin, who hasn't played in the NHL since like 2017.

I don't think anyone thought this trade was going to be an automatic home run, but good heavens, I never thought it would backfire so spectacularly. But given it's the Sens, who are only second to the Canucks when it comes to drama, I should not have been this shocked.

Anyway, one small bit of good news for Ottawa, they get back in the first round after forfeiting their own pick in the Evgenii Dadonov trade debacle.

Same exact thing that happened with the Devils, new owner went to the league and said "Hey, I wasn't here when this shit went down," and got compensated for it with the last pick in the first round.

Frankly I don't think the Sens ever should've lost that pick to begin with (fuck you Vegas, maybe quit throwing players away like yesterday's garbage) but geez, NHL, quit being a bunch of fuckin' weenies. :jerkbag:

Ullmark was very good in year one so I think he can rebound next season.

But while other teams in the east are improving, the Sens are spinning their wheels. And losing Sanderson to injury will guarantee no playoff berth.

Something about the core is stinky.

Shit just got REAL.

Ullmark was "unavailable" for a big game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, so James Reimer went and the Sens lost. Ullmark started the next game against the Florida Panthers and was summarily chased from that game.

Fast forward to the Tkachuk brothers' podcast and Old Man Keith goes off on Ullmark. Both Matthew and Brady try awkwardly to change the subject but the damage was done.

Just read that the media requested to speak to Tkachuk and Ullmark and both are unavailable.

Yeah I don't think he or the Sens can rebound from this.

Naturally they win their next game against the East-leading Buffalo Sabres.

Tkachuk also got fined for reaching over the boards and slashing a guy. That kind of shit should land a guy at least a couple games.
