The double retention rule has definitely slowed the trade roll. But the rising cap matters too. With more money in the system, fewer teams are forced into cap dumps, so trades shift toward roster fit instead of cap gymnastics. The irony is player movement drives league buzz — and the NHL doesn't value that. :roll:
