DeBoer the new head coach in Dallas. A bit like Gallant where he doesn't seem to last long in places, but he's gotten results.

Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
He just looks much more like an accountant than an NHL coach. I really think that works against him.E.L. wrote:DeBoer the new head coach in Dallas. A bit like Gallant where he doesn't seem to last long in places, but he's gotten results.

My God, DeBoer getting recycled over and over again like all the other, and now after thwarting them two separate times in the playoffs, he ends up in the same goddamned division with the Avalanche. He just will NOT go away.
I personally can't stand the guy. Bitches and moans about the officiating, but I guess in a way I can't blame him because it sure feels like he starts getting the calls once he does so. No doubt he's the perfect fit for the grind, grind, and grind some more Stars.

The Stars have an aging Benn and Seguin contributing, but this is clearly a team built around Robertson, Heiskanen, and Oettinger now.
And Robertson is absolutely ridiculous. He's already elite, and may be knocking the door on generational if he keeps going at this rate.

Roope Hintz (and I'm now being told by someone from Finland it's pronounced "Raw-Peh" and not "Roo-Pay") signs for max term, AAV around $8.5 million.
And that deal will probably pale in comparison to what Robertson will eventually get.
Stars appear to have succeeded in doing what the Hawks, Wings, and Avalanche failed to do, and what the Kings are still trying (and mostly failing) to do--rebuild on the fly.

Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
Huh, the West is just a shitshow right now.
Stars suffer their worst loss of the season, blowing a three-goal lead to lose IN REGULATION against a very bad Blackhawks team that just played the night before. Jets and Avs are creeping up on them.
So what does Nill do? Does he trade for Kane (who sure as hell made a statement lately that's he's rarin' to go somewhere) or make some other move? Feels like they gotta do SOMETHING, after a rollicking start, Dallas has cooled off considerably.

Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
Damn, this thread hasn't been updated in a while.
Dallas finishes a good playoff run with a trip to the Conference Finals but no Cup. Just didn't quite have enough left to get past a very flawed Oilers team that suddenly has learned how to play defense this year. Absolutely peppered Stuart Skinner but couldn't score more than one goal. And they finish the series with ZERO power play goals.
Joe Pavelski unofficially announces his retirement. I think there's a possibility he tries again one last time a la Parise but he seemed pretty definitive. Pretty good career, probably a Hall of Famer.
Dallas is in good shape. Obviously Benn and Seguin are in decline, but Johnston, Harley, and Stankoven are only going to get better, they got Bourque in the fold, and Heiskanen, Robertson, and Oettinger are in their primes. The only thing they're lacking is a true gamebreaking talent. Maybe Johnston can be that guy but I'm not sure.

Robertson is PPG in his career, so I think he's that. I also think Heiskanen and Oettinger are top 5 at their positions in the league (Oettinger definitely, Heiskanen possibly). Pretty good foundation.Pokecheque wrote:The only thing they're lacking is a true gamebreaking talent.

Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
For some weird reason, Pete DeBoer opts not to rest any of his stars for the final game of the season, a meaningless contest against the Preds. Not only do the Preds beat them 5-1, but Jason Robertson left the game with an injury.
This on top of the news that Miro Heiskanen's status for the first round is quite uncertain.

Brough just mentioned that the Stars have lost their last 7 games of the season. Not typically a good look heading into the playoffs. The last time a team won the SC heading into the playoffs in this fashion were the Avs, when they lost 6 straight heading into the post season in 2022. I might need to change my first round pickPokecheque wrote:For some weird reason, Pete DeBoer opts not to rest any of his stars for the final game of the season, a meaningless contest against the Preds. There's likely going to be major changes in Colorado no matter what this summer, but if they can't beat THIS Stars squad, then they need to burn that thing to the ground.Logical Progression wrote:Brough just mentioned that the Stars have lost their last 7 games of the season. Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
These Robertson trade rumours seem pretty legit. They locked up Rantanen, who fills that sniper role. They got Hintz, Heiskanen, Oettinger, Johnston locked up. They need to lock up Harley. There’s no room for a Robertson extension, and that’s not including possibly bringing back Duchene and Granlund.
This is the big big fish of the offseason, and teams needing scoring should beat each other up for him. A rare game changer on the market.

He'd look great next to Horvat & Barzal.

Nill is hedging his bets though. Instead of letting Neil Graham, the HC of his AHL affiliate and who's been an up-and-comer talked about a lot lately, get hired somewhere else, he promotes him to replace Steve Spott, who left along with DeBoer. If things with GG go south early on, Nill will likely just put Graham in that spot. Gulutzan almost feels like an interim coach who'll take some of the heat off the organization than if they had just hired an inexperienced Graham outiright.
They also make an interesting hire to replace Graham and tab Avs skills coach Toby Petersen to helm the Texas Stars.

Re: Official Dallas Stars HYPE thread
MIKKO RANTANEN is now the league leader in PIMs thanks to his second ejection in three games. And this last one was IMO far more inexcusable than the hit that ended Romanov’s season.
As a result he’s been automatically suspended one game because he’s been kicked out of two games so close together. Rumor has it the league is looking to extend that.
Not a coincidence that Jamie Benn comes back and Rants goes full shitheel in less than a week.

Third douchey play in 3 weeks. "I'm not that kind of player" isn't going to work anymore.
