I read the first-ever Michigan was scored in the PWHL, can't remember who did it though.

NY lost 5-2 to Ottawa, which is a huge blow to their playoff chances, but in individual news, Abby Roque scored the first ever Michigan in the PWHL. They showed her on the bench a few minutes later and you could read her lips saying "I didn't think it was going to work".

I am perfectly okay with those goals BTW, and also okay with defensemen absolutely demolishing any player who tries it (which happened in a PSU/UConn showdown in the NCAA tournament). The only thing I am NOT on board with is smacking the goalie in the facemask with your stick while slamming it in the net.

Fully agreed. It's a legal goal. Is it disrespectful? Maybe? Don't let it happen then. I destroyed a guy for trying it against my beer league team and one of the only times I've ever hoped for violence in one of my daughters' games was when we were getting whooped like 11-0 and a girl started to try it. I yelled "stop her stop her stop her!" Our players stopped her.

You know the risks, so if you're gonna do it, do it quickly.

Yeah, I think that's why so few people try it. A single goal isn't worth the concussion you're likely to get from trying it. Roque had a perfect scenario. The D all turned away from her for some reason as she was heading behind the net. I guess they thought she was going to try a short side stuff.

I still can't pick the puck up from the ice for it so I'm no threat.

Yeah, I still hate that the Sirens claim it's for NYC's constant 1st responder sirens, not the mythological creature. Could have been soooooo much better that way. As it is, fans copy the Sponge Bog "wee woo" siren sound at games. It is NOT exciting. It's really frigging annoying.

I thought this was an unfounded rumor, but it's true. The PWHL is quickly expanding with an 8th team, and immediately creating a rivalry with Vancouver: Seattle. Geography and being expansion teams the same year should make for a good storyline.

Pretty psyched to see Montreal choose Ottawa as their 1st round opponent, and lose to them in 4 games (5 game series). Finals are Minnesota vs Ottawa, the 4 & 3 teams respectively. Series begins 5/20.

Game 3 went to triple OT before the Frost won it. 2-1 lead in the best of 5 series, with game 4 at home today. Ottawa hoping to force game 5 on Wed.

Minnesota repeats as champions, winning game 4 in OT. 3-1 series win sounds pretty dominant but all 4 games went to OT. Can’t get closer than that.
Hopefully they don’t fire the GM again.

On one hand you gotta hand it to the Frost for their second Walter Cup, but on the other hand, if the behind-the-scenes drama that ousted the GM who built that team to begin with have any truth to them, I don't like that sort of thing being rewarded.

Yeah, it's not like they changed a lot from last year. She's either really pissed off today or gloating in a "look what I built" way. I hope she gets hired by one of the expansion teams.

Surprised NY didn't protect Carpenter or Schroeder. Both have been huge for them. Carpenter going out with an injury is what sunk NY's season.

Lots of roster moves. Seattle gets Hillary Knight, Alex Carpenter and Kayla Barnes up front (could be the best line in the league) and gets Corinne Schroeder in net. NY fans are calling for the GM to be fired. I agree. Stupid to leave Schroeder unprotected. Ottawa loses Maschmeyer to Vancouver.

This is weird though- the expansion draft hasn't actually happened yet. It's Monday. But the new teams got the opportunity to speak to select players before signing them away from their existing teams, and then after losing 2 players, the existing teams got to add one player to their protected list. I get that they don't want to have two teams that suck, but these two new teams look STACKED and I wouldn't be surprised to see NY in the basement again. In the expansion draft, Seattle & Vancouver will each get to draft more players from each team, so each team will lose four players total. They only got to protect three initially, then the added player.

PWHL draft is tonight. NY with the #1 pick. They need it. It's been a mass exodus of players leaving them and they've retained few and signed even fewer from other teams. Big roster turnover, which I guess they could kind of use after finishing last two years in a row, but they've let their top scorer and best goalie go, sooooo, let's see how this works out.

As of now, they have 9 forwards, 7 D and 1 goalie on the roster. I guess they expect great results from this draft!

Sirens fans, who are usually very supportive even after 2 last place finishes, are calling for the GM's job.

PWHL draft was yesterday. Sirens traded away some fan favorites, after letting several other fan favorites go via expansion draft. But, the team had finished last 2 years in a row, so big changes were needed. They should have a young, exciting team. Hopefully they do better this year.
Traded yesterday- Abby Roque, owner of the only Michigan goal to date in the league, and Ella Shelton, scorer of the first ever PWHL goal.
#1 overall pick by the Sirens was Kristýna Kaltounková, who had played for Colgate.
They got the #3 pick in the Shelton trade (you see that Darche?) and took Casey O'Brien from Wisconsin, who many thought might go 1 or 2.

I don't like to comment on the appearances of women athletes, but Seattle's 1st round pick looks like a middle aged substitute teacher who can't control an elementary class.
