24-25 rumour mill

Post by E.L. »

Rangers and Sabres stink. Canucks and Bruins are reportedly shopping around. Lots of teams surprisingly struggling. We could see a lot of moves from now till the deadline.

I'd throw the Isles into the "blows dead bears" category. I'd say anyone not named Sorokin is on the table, although plenty of their contracts are untradeable.

Rags give up on Kakko. He goes to Seattle for Borgen, who looked steady for a while and has since tanked with Montour’s arrival.

Nashville trades Carrier to Montreal for Barron. Both teams get what they want: Nash a puck mover, Habs a steady RD to replace Savard.

Is there no roster freeze during the break? We need trades!

There isn't. Could be a good time for trades, so guys could find housing in their new cities, get to know teammates, etc.

Rangers send Lindgren and Vesey to Colorado for Parssinen, De Haan and picks.

Then the Preds moved Nyqvist to Minny for a pick.

Seth Jones at 25% retention to Florida for Spencer Knight and a first rounder.

I don't think that was nice work at all. He had the most coveted defenseman up for grabs this deadline and he shuttles him off for a very problematic goalie prospect and a first rounder, AND that much retention!?!? I get that it was always going to be a tough situation to move a contract that big, but I can't believe that was the best offer out there.

I think Davidson sucks. If he does indeed tank this team enough to get to to contention status someday, I very much doubt he'll be the guy standing there when it's finally time.

It's funny though, the Hawks are about the closest thing to a "dynasty" we've seen in the NHL in our adult lives, and that team was built by...Dale Tallon and Stan Bowman, both of whom have proven to be grossly incompetent GMs in their own right.

Seth Jones has a terrible contract and was calling the shots on where he ended up. To walk away with good 23-year-old goalie (his problems were mostly during COVID times, I'm going to cut him some slack) and a 1st is tidy work for a guy who publicly wanted out and cried about it constantly. The retention was inevitable, no one is paying 9.5M for Jones.

As a whole I don't love what Davidson is doing, but I think he's clearing the decks to sign Marner or Rantanen if they hit the market. If not, Tavares.

I'm sure it'll be Rantanen, Avs castoffs always have an uncanny ability to land right back in the fucking division and never leave.

I'd rather have Spencer Knight than Seth Jones.....but whatever. Blackhawks did themselves a favor there. Could you imagine the Avs choosing this dude (a 3-4 guy) over Nate? Well even if the Avs would have tried to continue their 2013 draft party it doesn't look like Seth was interested. Denver has changed a lot since then (and not for the better)!

Can't say I really understand the Avs Rangers trade....other than what the Professor said about moving on from mistakes.

Neither one of these is any type of blockbuster......

Friday will probably be pretty boring unless Petersen or Raantanen move.

Edmonton acquiring tweener forward Max Jones and currently-injured Trent Frederic from Boston, NJ gets Scott Lachance's son Shane (big forward, currently captain at BU) for helping out with retention.

Pierre Lebrun says only the Penguins are rebuilding right now. The other 31 teams are trying to get better. Some real delulu organizations out there.
