Boston/Canada GM Sweeney is supposedly pissed about how the US team handled McAvoy's injury. This is why a mid-season national tournament is stupid. Well, one of the reasons.

Sometimes its good to be wrong...........never would have thought Binnington would turn out to be my choice for Canadian star.

Proud to say I didn't watch any of it.
The US lost because of the dickhead that called to wish them luck earlier in the day.

Okay, I don't really believe that, but it's been fun to say to a few friends in red hats, and I don't mean Canada hats.

As someone who wasn't too keen on this I ended up really enjoying it. The Canada/USA hockey was some of the best hockey that has been played in quite some time. Combined with the convenient stoking of nationalism this turned into must see TV. It left me wanting to see a best of 5 or 7 Canada USA series.......and the Russians and Czechs next time.

In typical Maple Leafs fashion Matthews abandons ship to leave McJesus all alone.....and so ends that! Binnington was amazing in that OT!

The tournament was a massive success for the NHL and should be a permanent replacement for the lame duck allstar game.

Binnington was bad and then OT happened. The sequence where he was completely turned around facing his own net searching for the puck? Good lord. Hellebuyk was far more in control of his movements, but alas.

Canada was trying to force so many shots through and had a lot blocked.

Larkin went from low on the depth chart to playing a huge role in the US victory over Canada and then saw more and more important ice as the tourney went on. Really happy for him.
Thanks Chuck, E.L. and Harmy!

There is nothing calm and reassuring about Binnington's game but he got it done :D

He was a monster in OT that's all that matters.

I ended up rooting for the Canadians in the end. I usually am never all that enthused about Team USA when it's comprised of NHL players because those are usually a lot of the players I just don't like. If I were to list my top ten favorite hockey players I think maybe one of them would be American. Only downside is that Binnington got to be a big hero for his home country.

Also nice to hear the Canadian Anthem singer changed the lyrics ever so slightly to give a big middle finger to the MAGA crowd.

The hardest hit leveled on anyone didn't even take place in this tournament. Akim Aliu completely bodied P.K. Subban online hours before the final.

Chantal Kreviazuk completely butchered the anthem. Changing the lyrics slightly but she completely lost the timing, pitch, EVERYTHING. I've seen her live, including an incredible rendition of Superman's Dead by Our Lady Peace(her husband's band), and I cannot believe how bad that anthem was.

Both anthem performances were...not good. I still give her credit for the lyric change but for a moment that fuckin' big, it felt like failure all around. I was listening to pregame in my car and was like...really!?
