Sharks fire David Quinn after San Jose finished with the worst record in the league since the Atlanta Thrashers ended up with 39 points in 1999-00. Their 47 points juuuuuust edges out the Colorado Avalanche of 2016-17 who finished with 48.

Tomorrow is finally here: the Sharks will draft first overall in 2024 and get Macklin Celebrini. Immediate 1C potential.

It came soooo close to being the goddamn Blackhawks again.

Hockey twitter seems unanimously happy it's the Sharks and not the Hawks. People just like/pity the Sharks. The team that kickstarted the 90s hockey expansion revolution. Mike Grier deserves this.

Will Smith signs his ELC. Absolutely dominant at Boston College. There's pretty much no doubt he's ready for a top-6 role.

Nice little pickup for the Sharks, getting former first rounder Ty Dellandrea from the stacked Stars for a fourth round pick.

Might not be much of a pro, but they've got time and space to find that out.

Grier and the Sharks are busy in this very, very brief period between end-of-season and the draft. Apologies in advance if I get this wrong:

Acquires D Jake Walman and a 2nd rounder.

Flip that 2nd rounder and their first to Buffalo in order to move up from 14th to 11th overall in the draft.

Trades D Kyle Burroughs to Los Angeles in exchange for the rights to free agent winger Carl Grundstrom.

I really like what Grier is doing here. Massive hole to climb out of and he's moving.

They’re still a long way from respectability, but they’ve got the personnel in Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Musty, Askarov to make it happen.

They just need defence.

Grier has been a very mixed bag for me. Has made some good moves (taking a chance on Dellandrea, trading for Askarov) but there have been some stinkers (Ceci) as well. We'll see if he gets a real shot at building this team or if he gets booted early like Murray in Buffalo.

It's gotta be painful to be a Sharkies fan and watch Vlasic and Couture just kinda go through the motions. Both those guys have been done for years and still have quite a bit of money and term left on their respective deals.

I agree on the Ceci thing, but to play devil’s advocate, I think there’s perhaps some directive from ownership to at least have some veterans around to soak up hard minutes for the kids. They added Ceci, Wennberg, Toffoli, Walman and Goodrow to insulate Mack and Smith.

This team is going to win the Cup in five years. Mack is the real deal.

Yeah, they may very well be on the right track.

Kovalenko has been up and down for them, in and out of the lineup as a result. He'll likely never be anything more than a scrappy depth forward who can plunk in the occasional dirty goal, but if he can find a consistent role he should be a long-term NHLer. Hopefully he'll be allowed to do just that, he won't accept a demotion to the minors.

The bad news for Sharks fans--they're learning exactly why Alexandar Georgiev was run out of town on a rail this year. Gave up TWO shorthanded goals late, the last one being an absolute stinker, in a recent game against the Vegas Golden Snitches.

Granlund and Ceci to DAL for a first and third. Both were basically cap dumps that Grier took on. He already got a 3rd for Ceci, and only lost 7th dman type Emberson in the process.

Grier keeps winning.
