Now it's hip and knee for Price. The timing of the Weber and Price leaks is...well...good for you Bergy. Nothing is actually official yet on the injury front, but they are up for grabs if Seattle wants them.

St. Loo media reports Habs talking to Mike Hoffman. Tatar is better than Hoffman, who fell off a cliff 5v5 and got propped up by Huberdeau/Barkov in Florida.

Yup, I definitely prefer Tatar.

Hoffman has an elite one-timer. Which is what the Habs need on the PP, but a 5v5 poop player won't endear himself to Dominique and Marc.

Tatar is definitely on the way out. If the idea is to bring in a guy to beef up the power play and provide some offensive punch for guys like Gallagher and Danault then Hoffman is kinda perfect, since his obvious defensive shortcomings are shored up by those two.

That said, I've never been a fan of Hoffman--too many stories of him being a thoroughly disliked guy in the locker room.

Which is why Ottawa got rid of him. Character means everything and I really don't want a shit disturber on this team where everyone seems to really get along.

The selectively timed leak this morning from Danault's stomping grounds is he's going to be drafted by Seattle, then will sign an 8 year/5.8M AAV deal. Hard to compete with that. Seattle is a stat-forward franchise and they probably noticed Danault is a 5v5 god.

I don't want to see him go. For that price though? I'm not so sure that we get 6 million value per year out of him for the life of his contract.

Engels and Lavoie quickly shot it down, so we'll see. How often do those small town rumours end up coming to fruition?

Rejean Houle's son JF gets the Laval job. Bouchard peaced to San Diego where Anaheim coach Eakins is a soft target with a year left on his deal. Houle has coached at various levels, including Bouchard's Armada, for two decades. I'm sure he'll be adequate.

It's expansion draft day. Reports say Seattle is genuinely tempted by Price and are looking to make Montreal sweat. Price and his family flew to Kelowna to check on their summer home reno, for what it's worth.

Drouin appears out. Brian Wilde thinks his career is done.

So it's Price, Danault or one of the two defencemen Kulak/Fleury.

Danault and Gourde up the middle would be a pain to play against. That would make me a low-key Kraken fan.

Fleury it is. Price stays.

That was clear from the start.
Fleury is the best value pick and there was no room for him on the team.

Full win.

Anytime you don't lose a roster player in the expansion draft, it's a win. Fleury had a nice floor coming in, but the ceiling wasn't there. Brook's got a little more puck movement to his game.

Drouin wasn't the kind of player Seattle was clearly looking for. Not sure what his future entails. This team is built for Danault, though. I think they'll offer him a contract.

Price will be back. This might've been his best/only chance to change team in a way that doesn't hamstring the organization. Now he's off to NY to get his knee/hip checked.

Bergevin presser:

Weber is indeed done. Litany of injuries.
Drouin will be back. Whatever was ailing him has been fixed.
He wants Danault back, but sounds like he won't be.
Edmundson and Romanov on the right side? Yikes.
Not too worried about Price. His injury isn't considered LTIR-worthy, but you never know until you dig in there.

With everything we now know, here's the offseason grocery list:

1. Versatile 3C/W to replace Danault, provide a little more offence but not impede Evans/Poehling if they play well enough (Dvorak? Stastny? Bonino? Janmark? Haula? Johansson?)
2. RHD for the power play (Risto? Martinez off-hand? Montour? Goligoski? Vatanen?)
3. RHD to play responsibly (Savard? Demers?)
4. Corey Perry
5. Backup if Price can't go
6. A Quebecer or two (Paquette? Brassard?)

Price had his knee surgery today and is expected to be out 10-12 weeks. He is expected to be ready for the start of the season....

We will see.

The Mailloux pick?

It's a business and Montreal has a good enough spin. Goodwill and $5 in the NHL will get you a Starbucks coffee to watch Seattle win the Cup before Montreal.

I'll eat my hat if Logan plays 50 games in Montreal. Habs went to bat and old boys clubbed a marginal prospect from the overrated Knights factory. Enough ink has been spilled so I'll move on.

The Habs had a boring draft. Picking 31 most rounds will do that. Other than maybe Kostenko, the guys mostly look like organizational depth.

Now on to free agency. Habs have cap space to blow. Friedman made the obvious Savard link. Will 3 years, 4M AAV get it done? Don't want to give more.
