They were gassed. Played the night before in Vancouver. No one expected them to win and to their credit kept it close. Ducharme should've put the scratches and taxi squad in.

And yeah, Romanov with Weber. I would've put Mete to keep the other pairings intact, but its all good.

Are you saying the Canucks gassed them in that 5-1 dog shit of a game?

I guess we'll see tomorrow how well the Flames can stick to this new system. I am not convinced they can.

An ugly twofer against the Flames. Only two goals in two games.

Suzuki collided with Perry helmet to helmet, then Backlund hit him from behind. Rough game for him. Danault got hurt in the first and struggled the rest of the game.

Chiarot got hurt in a fight the other day and is out.

Chiarot out 6-8 weeks. Busted hand in a fight. He and Weber have struggled, but Ben still logs 22 heavy minutes a night. Romanov and Mete get their chance to shine.

Down Chiarot, the Habs win convincingly against the Jets. Mete already lost favour with the coach. But Kotkaniemi and Suzuki were flying.

Rumours abound the Habs want Ekholm to replace Chiarot, who's almost certainly out most of the regular season. It would take a 1st and a player or two. With the Habs looking to re-sign Danault and Evans looking like a decent 4C, Poehling looks like the odd man out. It's a shame, because I think the upside is still there, but you gotta trade something of value.

Bergevin gave a midseason presser. Said in order to add someone, they would need to open space in the cap, suggested that won't be possible with few owners taking on dead money. Of course, Chiarot might go LTIR and open things. And they may still find a taker for Byron.

As mentioned in the other thread, Habs unexpectedly get the week off thanks to a positive COVID result.

Gives Toffoli a chance to recover and maybe 3 extra Caufield games in May, so not a big deal.

Also gives Bergevin a chance to work the phones on adding...what exactly? Ekholm to replace Chiarot? Centre depth? More scoring? Not really sure what he's interested. Players in Laval are doing well, so he's got some pieces to move.

After just yesterday, with Bergevin saying he won't be busy at the deadline, Habs are front runners to land Staal from Buffalo.

Staal, being a centreman, who's place would he take? Koki's for now? Evan's?

Evans has looked absolutely gassed for the last month. Hit a rookie wall. A good young player, but it's a lot to play as much as he's been. They haven't even really coddled him. I think rotating five centres will help them all.

Wow, it really wasn't that long ago we only really had one centreman and were panicked on getting more.

Habs back in action tonight. Four games postponed due to COVID. Didn't lose any ground in the standings.

Habs have 6 games in hand on Vancouver and Calgary and 2 points ahead. We need to cash in those games in hand to make a run further up, as Habs are
8-10 points out of 1-3 with 4-5 games in hand.

For the Habs, it all comes down to Calgary. The Habs play the Flames 5 more times down the stretch. The Flames would almost need to sweep those head to head games without giving any points back. I don't see it happening.

Having games in hand almost looks like a curse this year with how condensed the schedules are. Unless they extend the season by a week or two and let teams that didn't have covid postponements sit around practicing.

I didn't ask, but the newspaper let me use a pun in the title tonight. My years here have led me to this point.

Bergy is definitely going to make a move after tonight's flat performance. Corey Perry played 20 mins because everyone else blew!
