Canadian Division rivalry on day one. I guess they're all rivalry games now?

Guess I am slacking on my Leaf sub forum content. Maybe the games will get me excited.

The Leafs are a lot beardy-er it seems. Does that make them tougher to play against? guess we will see.

The Anderson line seems to be clicking.

Oh baby Suzuki and Anderson make it 2-1. Habs scored late in a period for a change.

Old defencemen looking old tonight: Chiarot got into an ill-advised fight that cost them and Weber got a 2 minute over the glass.

Romanov meanwhile did a perfect pass on the Tatar goal.

Stretch Marks.

Romanov has a nickname.

Stretch Marks.

As in, that stretch pass leaves marks.

How about we not?

Anyways, the Leafs and Habs both showed off their talent. Gonna be fun to watch them play 100 times this year.

Great game! Looks like the refs are calling every little tug, hold and dive imaginable...but at least that shitty offsides rule is gone.

Its scary how good the Habs look (can't imagine if they land PLD). Leafs are no joke (except for Reilly).Sick moves by Suzuki turning him inside out. Reilly did get the last laugh though.

Can't wait to see these guys meet 10 times! This Scotia North division is going to be awesome.

Sure Simmonds had a bit of a fight but really didn't think the Leafs looked hard to play against at all. Still having those defensive moments that leaves you shaking your head in bewilderment that this is an NHL team a handful + times a game where the good teams, even the offensively talented ones only do a time or two.

Even though the shot totals where similar the Leafs had the better chances and as expected Price was the equalizer with Anderson letting a couple go through holes.

Not sure why the Canadian sports media seems to be applauding Simmonds for his fight last night. That's never really a role I've attributed to him. I thought he was a player with grit not some goon. Plus I thought this was something the NHL was trying to weed out...seems to be a little weird.

I'm guessing the pundits who have blasted the Dubas-era Leafs for being too soft likes that there's a guy who sticks up for his teammates.

Simmonds obviously ain't a goon but he's thrown them down a few times in his career. What bothers me is that, like Backes, an increasingly brittle player is thinking that's how he has to be in order to stay in the NHL.

On a side note, hey Freddy, how about, like, not sucking to start the season for once in your career?

I could live with the starts if he gets it back together, last season he didn't. I've come to believe he just doesn't read the game well enough to be a top tier goalie. He is athletic and big so that keeps him in the middle of the pack still, but the amount of pucks that go through him indicate he is not confident in his position to me and is now cheating for everyone to go bar down. I suspect playing for a few years in a horrible defensive world has attributed.
