Isles-Avs minor league trade yesterday was a warmup.

RFA Devon Toews to the Avs for the Avs' 2nd round picks in 2021 and 2022.

Best of luck out west Toews!

The market has dried up: Dadonov to Ottawa (!) For 3 years, 5M AAV. It only pays in 3.5M in year one, so Seattle bound?

This is the worst October Free Agency season ever!

Man, do I ever feel bad for some of these NHL forwards. The flat cap and further economic uncertainty has all but killed most of their chances at a big payday. One such example is Matt Nieto. In a regular offseason, I could see that guy getting Beagle money (and he'd be way more worth it than Beagle). Alas, he has to settle for league minimum money for a year.

I've heard rumblings that the Isles have handshake deals with the likes of Martin and Brassard, and will announce them after they get Pulock and Barzal's deals done, similar to announcing Lee's deal last year after Panarin signed with the Rangers. I don't know if I believe it. Typically with Lou you will only hear about finalized deals but stranger things have happened.

Leafs sign Joe Thornton for the min. Jumbo Joe and Spezza providing veteran leadership and not much speed on the bottom 6.

Pens sign Cody Ceci for a year.

I don't hate a defence of:

Dumoulin-Letang
Matheson-Marino
Pettersson-Ceci

The Pens are one of those teams that seems on the wrong end of their dominant years, but their offseason wasn't terrible.

One injury to Letang or Marino and that lineup goes completely to horseshit. Matheson is truly abominable defensively. Ceci might actually be better.

I love that Jim Rutherford is willing to do just about anything to try and win in the next two years (that's about how much time they have before the window abruptly slams shut) but I don't think this is it.

Man, this is shaping up to be a very unfortunate time for some teams and players. We now have zero teams below the cap floor, and someone said there are SEVEN teams that have to move salary. Either some teams are going to have to pay through the nose to move contracts, those free agents will have to take discount one-year deals, or--worst case scenario--those teams just have to give up the player(s) they want to sign. Tampa is in kind of a bind now when before they were pretty adept at moving money.

On the other side of things, players like Mike Hoffman and Travis Hamonic are sitting around without a team to go to. The former situation will likely have to be resolved before there's any movement on the latter.

The Seattle Kraken are licking their chops. They're gonna find a few suckers for sure.

It's a damn shame they can't make trades now and get some players to start team building.

Interesting to see the Leafs bring back old friend Michael Hutchinson for two years. And this was after they traded away Calle Rosen as part of the Kadri deal, and then traded Hutchinson to the Avalanche in order to get Rosen back. Now they get Hutch too.

I've certainly no ill will toward the guy. He isn't a legit NHL goalie anymore, but he's as good a #3 as you could ask for. A good all-around guy who helped out the injury-depleted Avs when they needed him the most and got them within a goal of the Western Conference Final.
