11 players positive now. Seriously, if the NHL or NBA wants to do this their hub cities should be Auckland and Wellington.

They wouldn't be allowed in, which is why those places have no cases.

This is just getting stupid. Cancel the fucking season.

It would be rad if the NBA players started their own black owned league....

I'm sure there's fine print in their contracts that says they can't. But yes, it would be cool.

Now tennis player Grigor Dmitrov has it, which is bad news because tennis players basically share the same facilities.

Even if there isn't, the players, rich as they are, aren't rich enough to launch a rival basketball league all on their own.

It was 40 years ago, and times are very different, but what kind of comparison to the NHL's budget did the WHA have when it started? But I agree, players don't have shit compared to owners. That's part of the problem.

But I wonder what would happen if players tried. They're the ones fans want to see. If players went on strike and did something like rent an arena, pick teams themselves, and stream it. I wonder how many fans would tune in. I'll bet it would be a shit load.

Apparently 4 more Phillies tested positive. Two more players and two more staff. That's now 7 players and 5 staff

On the NBA front, Woj tweeted the NBA are expecting loads of positive tests. And they're proceeding anyway!

I wouldn't just stream it. I would become an instant fan.

Vancouver is out of contention of being a hub city. Too clean, too many restrictions. Personally I am happy about this but the optics for NHL look bad.

I just don't see it happening anytime before Fall at this point with the way things have been going with the spikes.

I just read this article (from Deadspin mind you  ) but it looks like there are a tonne of players who don't want to play. But I guess there is a shit load of money on the line.

https://deadspin.com/hockey-culture-con ... in_twitter

Quote:
It’s not that hockey culture hasn’t destroyed lives before. We know it has from just the past couple weeks from Akim Aliu’s story or Daniel Carcillo’s class-action lawsuit. These are hardly isolated incidents or stories. In addition, it doesn’t even appear to be that big of a stand, if indeed 75% of players don’t want to play as Engel suggests. It would hardly be rebellious to say that out loud for anyone.

Sounds like Vegas may be out of contention now due the spike in cases. Bob Mackenzie reporting both hub cities likely to be in Canada.

In a way I'm fine with Montreal being a COVID hotspot and not under consideration. I don't want the players here.

Lots of empty hotels in the Niagara Region.

But would rather they stay away.

Yes I know Niagara is not in the running.

Very pleasant surprise...Edmonton and Toronto....and West stays in West, East stays in East...which if we ever get there will make it home for Edmonton and Toronto....I think that's awesome! Also SCF in Edmonton...awesome! Great for Canada....if we ever get to actual playing.

Glad the city of Vegas is out. Those idiots can't handle it.
