A few things:
1. Shooters are more adept than ever. Not only in terms of power and accuracy, but they can disguise their shots, none better than Auston Matthews. 2. The game has never been faster. Passes, skating, everything is moving so fast, a goalie can only react and get set so quickly. 3. Equipment changes are having the desired effect.
But ultimately I just don't see any generational talents in goal right now. There's no Patrick Roy, Marty Brodeur, or Dominator to be found at present. Of course, all three of those players had their prime seasons in the Dead Puck Era when you couldn't rifle an outlet pass across the red line and you could park an RV behind the net area, but I still think they were, era-adjusted, way better than the guys we see today.
