Team's still deep, wouldn't count them out.

But there's no word the NHL will suspend him because he didn't fail one of their tests.

I imagine he'll cool off at some point, but right now John Carlson is blowin' the damned doors off in Year Two of his big contract.

Carlson's career high point total when Karl Alzner was a Cap: 55.

Yearly point totals since Alzner left: 68, 70, and now 34 in 23 games.

I would prefer if the Caps would stop winning at this pace. It's just ridiculous. What happened to NHL parity?

Would it be wrong to ask how bad they'll be when they come down from this "coke high" start to the season?

Hathaway gets three games for the spitting incident.

I don't know as its absolutely disgusting and bullshit to spit on ANYONE in any situation or sport. Don't know where I sit with it being three games?

The league wants to send a message and nip this in the bud right now, like the NFL did with the throat slash years ago. I'm fine with that.

Now...if only the league also frowned upon sucker punches and racist/homophobic/sexist comments like this.

Oh, I'm in full agreement. I was contemplating if three games was enough, but good on the NHL acting quickly and sending a message.

Yeah...I think so. Hathaway seems pretty embarrassed and apologetic about the whole thing, says he won't even appeal the decision.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed center Nicklas Backstrom to a five-year, $46 million contract. 9.2M AAV.

A thank you contract for winning them a Cup. I doubt he'll actually be worth that over the life of the deal.

He’ll keep it up for a year or two and then maybe by year four they’ll just Robidas him.

Coach Todd Reirden fired. The window is closing so you knew heads would roll after a second straight first round defeat.

That's a GM (Panthers- Tallon) and now a coach that the Isles have gotten fired this year.

Even if the Isles win i suspect the Flyers will be happy to keep their current setup. Then again, the Flyers have panicked over less...

I'm not suggesting the Isles will win that series, nor that the Flyers would fire anyone if they do. (Although, it would be a pretty impressive hat trick of sorts  )

Amazing. Not shocking at all. At least no one can ever take their Cup away from them.

I’ll laugh heartily if they end up having to pay up for a coach after balking at Trotz.

Ovi has one year left on his deal. Where does the time go?

Wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility the Kremlin itself cuts him a blank cheque to play in the KHL for a couple of years.

Does he live in Russia or US off season?
