Here we are after the scoring turd burglar visited the Flames during the playoffs last year. We won't even talk about Johnny's ghost like performance during the World Cup either...........moving on!

So qualifying offers have been made, no surprise:

https://calgarysun.com/sports/hockey/nh ... ing-offers

I expect Tckahchicuucck and Rittich to eat most of that existing Cap space thus putting potential RFAs Foo, Mangiapane and Bennett in play elsewhere. Bennett holds arbitration rights and so does Rittich. Could be some scraps to be had here.

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flames

IMO they still need a goalie.

I'd offer sheet Bennett if I was a team. A 3M offer sheet only means giving up a 2nd and I doubt Calgary could cover that depending on how the Tkachuk negotiations go.

Excellent....this is what I was hoping to hear. I figured there could be some poaching here and little the Flames could or would do about it.

Sam really irritated me last playoffs. I watched him run all over the ice out of position....but on the other hand he was the only one playing like he gave two fucks and it isn't like the Flames had great layers anyway. He's never really budded into that top line guy like I thought he might be able to (most never do). He IS worth a 3 million offer somewhere else where he can get a new start with his reality compared to the dream.

Thanks!

I left the other Sam in that draft for dead and Reinhart dropped 65 points. I'm not giving up on this Sam.

Hathaway hits the road to the Caps. 4 year 1.5 AAV. Fantenberg also hit the road to the Canucks.

I suppose I didn't realize how up against the Cap this team is.

Need to move some folks....Frolik, Stone, Hamonic, Brodie.......15 Mill there.

Corey Perry was affordable at 1.5.......at least he might be able to do as much as James Neal at 5 times the price....

Bennett signs before his arbitration hearing, two years at an AAV of $2.55 million.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/fla ... -contract/

That seems fair.

Well...they may still have to move him (or Frolik) if Tkachuk wants a big raise.

Some cap circumvention, but it's totally legal under the CBA.

https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/ ... 2200314880

Flames bring back Michael Stone for $700,000 after buying him out. I had thought you couldn't do that, but that rule only applies to compliance buyouts.

Frankly it should be outlawed in the next CBA, but I don't think Calgary did anything wrong here. The rules are the rules.

Only costs 1,166,667 plus 700k this year instead of 3.5M, defers 1,166,667 to next year.

The Flames strong arm Mangiapane into taking the qualifying offer they made back in June...................6.3 left. Dangerous game from Mangiapane as I am sure there were plenty of folks lining up to take his job with camp underway.

Quote:
Steinberg: In the end, Mangiapane’s camp had next to no leverage, which is why team was surprised it took so long. Calgary brass knew they had high ground and waited him out.

No idea why there are PTO guys in camp...do they not realize there is nothing for them!

I really like Austin Czarnak with a little time and space he knows what to do...but the problem is making that time and space in the regular season.

Flames B squad looked good last night.

Holy hell, they were all over the Cannots last night. They seemed to get into scoring areas with ease and impunity all night long. Lots of speed to spare... The Cannots did not make them look like the B squad.

That Czarnak was good...

If Dube doesn't get a spot I am going to be hot!.....Gilles looks serviceable and it appears that Milan has built a rapport with Johnny.........anything that gets Johnny's head back in the game works!

I wonder if I can just unstitch Lucic from my Boston 3rd Jersey and move it over to the horsehead in my closet............
