I'm guessing he'll sit out long enough to avoid training camp and then jump back in for one last run.

Pull a Mike Fisher? Yeah, makes sense.

I don't think the Canes thought when they dumped Calvin De Haan after one season that they'd be able to pick up the superior Jake Gardiner for even less money, but they did.

That's an insane steal, unless whatever concerns there are about Jake's back end up being justified. Regardless, I can't believe he had to settle for a discount like this.

Glad that's over with at least.

Beer league Leaf fans I play with can't stand the guy. His mistakes are GLARING and you have a hard time convincing them that the good outweighs the bad.

Welllllll I can't say I've seen a ton of Jake's game, but if they have a problem with his defensive game, they likely will have a problem with Barrie's as well.

The same type of oaf that ran Petry and Subban out of town. If you handle the puck, you're going to give it away more than a stay-at-home who doesn't do shit. It's logical. You never remember all the times he calmly and swiftly moved the puck out of harm's way or kickstarted a rush down the ice.

Statistically, the Leafs were so much better when he was in the lineup compared to when he was out with injury, it's not even funny. There's a reason they ran out and got Tyson Barrie.

Well right now everyone is talking about the Carolina Hurricanes because they're holding Faulk off the ice from practice, and Brind'Amour said he was healthy, so...

Well now...I may have to eat some humble pie when it comes to Tom Dundon.

Now...mind you, I don't know if the ouster of both Peters and Francis had anything to do with the toxic behavior Peters was exhibiting (and Francis reportedly did nothing despite hearing concerns from players and staff) but...it certainly makes that ouster more justifiable in hindsight.

Sara Civian is hinting she may be dropping a bombshell piece about Peters' and Francis' time in Carolina. Good Lord if this affects Francis in Seattle...holy shit.

They'll never all be healthy, but imagine running a defence of:

Slavin-Hamilton
Skjei-Pesce
Gardiner-Vatanen
Edmundson

Video game corps right there.

That vaunted defence crashed and burned in the playoffs. Gardy was a bust in Raleigh, and it seems the Rags gave up on Skjei for a reason. Vatanen did nothing after the trade and Edmundson, their most dependable guy, got hurt.

No matter how many deck chairs they flip around here, the defence comes down to Dougie, Slavin and a bunch of dudes.

At least they didn't give 7M to Faulk...

Itchy trigger finger Waddell and Dundon won't keep still. Svech and Necas look like stars alongside Aho and Teuvo, so they can keep flipping bodies on the backend.

Get a fuckin' goaltender.

And as nice a guy as he is, not David Ayres.

This remains an issue, which is a shame because with decent goaltending I think the Canes are close to an elite team. Aho and Teravainen are unreal together, Svechnikov will score a bunch and Necas is next. Add Hamilton and a still fairly deep defence and you've got a solid team.

The Hurricanes really need to become the team everyone keeps saying they're on the verge of becoming. They're always the "next big thing" but they're never the big thing. They're the Segways and Jim Breuers of hockey. They need to do more than make an occasional fluke run in the postseason to make me a believer.

Dundon is going to cheap the Canes out of contention by giving away Ned the Goalie and not paying up for Dougie.

Some great responses to Tony Q signing with Carolina.
The Storm Surge will now be shortened to the SS.
Storm Surge will change to Stormfront.
Storm Surge will change to Storm the Capitol.
currently asking Martin Necas if he can have #88

Well, everyone is talking about the Canes now!

Sara Civian did a fantastic job asking the tough questions and challenging the weak-ass blanket statements made by Waddell and DeAngelo.

All in all Carolina made themselves demonstrably worse this offseason and inexplicably took on the league's most despicable player for very little gain.

I don't understand being cheap with Alex Nedeljkovic only to throw more money at the rapidly declining Freddy Andersen. Raanta I like.

Losing Hamilton will sting. They also made a bunch of small moves that all look like losing propositions to me. Foegele was good too.

DeAngelo just isn't very good, on top of all the other shit.
