Apparently the Oilers needed OT in order to beat Cologne.

And yes, McDavid played.

Oilers give up on Ryan Strome, move him to the Rangers for Ryan Spooner. The latter makes more but the Rags will pick up the extra bit of the tab.

Eberle -> Strome -> Spooner

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :nar: :nar: :nar: :nar: :nar: :nar: :nar: :nar:

Oh, they were talking about those players on NHL Radio when I was driving to work and I couldn't figure out why. Okay, now that makes sense.

Spooner's making $4 million!? How in hell did he land that!?!?

So it doesn’t look like even Hitch is gonna save this season.

Chiarelli ain’t hanging back though. Already waived Zykov (claimed by Vegas, which means Carolina didn’t want him back), traded Wideman and Caiggula for Alex Petrovic, and...traded for Brandon fucking Manning, the guy who broke Connor McDavid’s collarbone his rookie season. AYFKM!!???

Oh and reportedly he tried to dump Ryan Spooner...no dice.

I want a job where I can be as incompetent as Chiarelli, and still get paid what he gets. Astounding.

By the way, the 2nd thread in the Oilers forum is the Nail Yakupov thread.

Eberle to Strome to Spooner to eventually nothing is why they're bad.

Yep.
Not to mention turning the #16 pick (that became Mat Barzal) and a 2nd rounder into Griffin Reinhart.

The lesson for other franchises to take from this: It does you no good to look outside the organization if all you do is bring in a guy who has the same old ideas.

Edmonton will never get this fixed until the glorified fanboy who owns them realizes the guys he has running things are going to keep running this thing into the ground, except this time around they'll end up wasting the best years of a generational player. Personally I hope they never figure it out because if they get an even marginally-acceptable guy in there the Oilers will become a juggernaut behind McDavid.

He's alone, right? Or with only newborns?

Yeesh. At this point, if you traded everyone but McD and Leon and filled the rest of the lineup with random replacement-level players, would they be any worse off?

I know what'll fix everything: signing Mikko Koskinen to a 3-year, 4.5M AAV extension!

On-air reaction to the Koskinen deal:

Even the normally uncritical guys on NHL Network couldn't help but shake their heads.

Watch his game cascade down a ring of toilet water for the stretch run.

Holy shit sandwich. I thought they meant 3 years, $4.5 million TOTAL. $4.5 million PER YEAR???????? Holy shit. I was hoping the Isles would re-sign Lehner soon. Now I really wish they had. This is going to drive goalie costs up. The rest of the GMs must love trading with Chiarelli, but this must make them want to get him fired. Idiot.

How the hell did Spooner get that much money? I literally never heard of the guy until the day he was traded for Rick Nash.
