He'll be a Yankee soon, making him the ultimate sports villain.

Gahhh, yep that'll do it.

I actually loved those Torre-era Yanks and I loved none more than Chuck Knoblauch. He was true heel if there ever was one in baseball.

I suspect Machado to the Yankees and Harper will either stay in Washington or go to the Dodgers. Phillies in on both. Cubs might be in on Harper. Giants and Angels could use both but I doubt are serious options. Sox don't need em but could make a splash.

No one else seems inclined to drop 350M on a player.

A decent under-the-radar free agent this offseason is Rockies 2B D.J. LeMahieu. He's a good 1 or 2 hitter, solid defensively. Downsides: He's 30 and has missed significant time in the last two seasons due to injury. The analytics community apparently doesn't like him much either but I don't understand baseball analytics, so take that however you will. The Rox will likely move on this offseason as they have a promising prospect in Garrett Hampson they want to play in that spot.

All resources need to be spent in signing Nolan Arenado long-term, hopefully ace reliever Adam Ottavino and the team agree to terms, they absolutely cannot afford to lose him. I also wouldn't mind if they somehow manage to fire Ian Desmond and his contract into the sun, but that's highly unlikely.

If Bobby Evans was still in charge I would've predicted LeMahieu to SF with Panik getting dealt.

Good contact, low power guy who fields well. NL West familiarity. Perfect Giant.

But Evans is gone and they need two outfielders, so never mind.

Mets potentially lose their minds, hire the agent who reps their best players Brodie Van Wagonwheel as their new GM. It's a conflict of interest mess already, but Brodie is a smart guy so maybe he'll be able to navigate those waters.

The Giants likely won't hire their new GM prior to free agency or the GM meetings, which suggests Sabean will do some 1-year-deals and leave a relatively blank slate for the next person in charge. Sounds like they want to poach Zaidi or someone else from the Dodgers org, which is why it's taking a while.

For the first time ever, a Taiwanese player will be posted to both the NPB in Japan and MLB: 25-year-old power hitting corner outfielder Wang Po-Jung.

Brodie Van Wagenen sounds like a name given to a sports agent parody by a sketch comedy show.

Slightly surprising news: Adrian Beltre announces his retirement after 21 years in the bigs. The only remaining ballplayer who played in the 90s is, of course, Bartolo.

Beltre is a no-doubt hall of famer: 3166 hits, 477 homeruns, career 95 WAR

MLB offseason always moves so painfully slowly.

I like that some typically cautious teams are going for it. Cards pick up Goldschmidt and the South Siders add Nova. The Mets gave up too much for Cano, but they have a thing for ex-Yankees anyway.

Jays give up on Tulo, who didn't play last season due to injury. Both Oakland and San Francisco have potential openings for him at 2B if he's willing to admit he can't play short anymore.

I like Billy Hamilton to the Royals. Good fit.

Rox need to figure out if they're keeping 2B D.J. LeMahieu, sign 3B Nolan Arenado to a megadeal, and try and keep their top reliever Adam Ottavino.

I'm guessing both DJ and Otto are gone, and they keep Sandblaster.

Also, it appears that the Expos will return the same way the Nordiques will...through Florida.

Funny how long they fought to get baseball down there in the Sunshine State and how big of a flop it's been. Meanwhile they couldn't WAIT to get baseball the hell outta Montreal.

Some realignment might be needed but Portland seems committed to building a downtown park. They're ahead of Montreal in that regard.

Snore. Harper and Manny remain un-signed, and we're still waiting on some big reliever dominoes to fall.

Baseball cheaps out and lets one of the game's best catchers go for a one-year deal. Brewers did well. Rest of baseball should be ashamed. Grandal could've helped a lot of teams.

Meanwhile, the LeMahieu to San Francisco rumours persist. Makes sense given divisional familiarity and his success against left handed pitching. There's the matter of their incumbent second baseman, but Joe Panik hasn't exactly proven himself to be a steady performer. Some see it as a set of dominoes where maybe Panik ends up in New York and Sonny Gray gets a chance to recuperate his value in San Francisco.

Better have a good utility guy to fill in for DJ--he's likely to miss time due to injury throughout the year.

Can't believe the Rox weren't ANYWHERE hear Grandal. He could've done so much for them.

There's collusion going on again, you can't tell me otherwise.

DJ is Cal Ripken compared to Panik.

The lede in the original piece was fucking glorious.

Way to go Reds, aggressively landing Gray, Roark and Wood to lead their rotation. I like it. Too many quitters in baseball right now.
