It's that time of year, wondering what others enjoy most.

Normally I pick It's a Wonderful Life but I'm actually getting a little sick of that one. Don't tell the wife, it's an annual tradition to watch that one every year. I wouldn't mind taking a long break from it for the time being.

Now...I think The Nightmare Before Christmas should be one but that's just me. That's one I don't think I've watched all the way through more than the first time I saw it in the theatres.

I voted Elf. Watched it the other night with the fam and it still makes me laugh, and schmaltzy as the damned climax is I still get a little choked up. The wife is always in tears every time. Also, Zooey Deschanel can do no wrong IMHO.

I gotta be honest, I've never cared a ton for Miracle on 34th Street.

Worst Christmas movies I've ever seen both involve Vince Vaughn. Four Christmases (though there is one hilarious sequence) and Fred Claus are ridiculously lazy films.

added Nightmare before Xmas. And yeah I like Elf a lot. It's held up really well over the years

and Zooey is great, her voice is smokin silk

For my wife and I it's National Lampoons Christmas. Yes I know it's silly, but its been a tradition of ours for over 20 years. I still laugh after all these years. " The shitter's Full!"

I've never seen a few of these, and have never been able to sit through the Nightmare Before Christmas.

I've had this argument with my wife and kids for years; Elf vs A Christmas Story. Elf is great, don't get me wrong. But I find that A Christmas Story just has such a basic storyline that every generation can understand it, even if the setting is obviously very dated. Elf obviously has a major suspension of disbelief issue, what with Santa and Elves, but it gets off track a little for me in that Buddy has truly Elf qualities, despite being human. How could an actual human make 100 snowballs in 0.5 seconds? And to throw them rapid fire... That's pure Elvin magic there; not human. And eating only candy, candy corn, candy canes and syrup, how is he not in a diabetic coma and/or 600 lbs??? I know, it's got flying reindeer and I'm worried about diabetes... But it's a bit too much for me.

I also own a Red Ryder. 8-) (Spoiler- it can't hit the side of a frigging barn, if you're 4' from said barn side!)

I got this for Christmas one year.

Image

It came with 5 classic Wings games in their entirety voted by the fans:
1. 2OT vs St Louis 1996
2. Wings vs Avs brawl game
3. 1997 Finals game 4 to win the Cup over Philly.
4. 2002 Wings Avs game 7 7-0
5. 2002 Wings Canes 3OT win

So immediately after opening presents Christmas morning, in goes the Wings vs. Avs brawl game. So that's the greatest Christmas movie.

lol Bosc, your Mrs. must really love spending time together with you on that one. :)

For me its tough, toss up between A Christmas Story and Elf. Although I'd probably if pressed give the edge to A Christmas Story. It's just so filled with so many classic little moments that add up to an incredible sum of all parts. But then again Elf has Bob Newhart which carries a lot of weight along with how good the movie was overall.

Let's just say that the Mrs. is not a big hockey fan and isn't likely to sit down with me to watch an old 3-hour hockey game.

Voted Elf. Seen Christmas Story twice as much so that likely worked against it.

Long ago I also liked The Ref. Totally unbelievable story, but Dennis Leary is great in it.

I like White Christmas but Elf takes it. The History of the Bruins was on last night and I got to tell the kids all about Eddie Shore, Dit Clapper, Frank Brimsek, Milt Schimidt and Tiny Thompson. That's as far as they made it before they took off though....Bosc is right....important holiday viewing!

Have not seen Elf yet. Funny? Good for an 8 year old?

I'm envious, you still get to see it for the first time. And yes its one of those especially well done movies that are good for any age.

What they said. I just saw it again all the way through a week ago and it's aged incredibly well.
