the Senators will receive Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, 2020 first-round pick, a 2019 second-round pick and two conditional picks in return.

Lots of stuff but not sure any of those individually are crazy impressive. With out an extension though guess you can only expect so much for one year of service.

Holy shit that seems like a crappy return.

Sens went the cheap route and got low-end guys they can plug in the lineup. Tierney is an ok 3rd line centre, Demelo is maybe a no. 7 dman, Balcers has upside but likely 3-4th liner, and Norris is Tkachuk's best friend, which hopefully isn't the only reason why they got him.

If Norris can make it next season and they can form an effective Tkachuk-Norris-White line, maybe this won't be so bad in the end?

At first glance it might look like a lot, but it's just a bunch of low-ceiling stuff. They had to get something high end, and they got nothing approaching that. Brutal.

All that because they prioritized sending him as far away as possible over everything else.

Considering that the talent the Sens picked up can be equivalently and readily found on the waiver wire or via free agency this is actually a trade for picks and nothing more. And I would think if they waited until the trade line that could have received a first and second rounder plus a grade prospect as a minimum return.

So effectively they have given up that A grade prospect for saving money on salary, and clearing the constant barrage of questions hanging over the team for the rest of the year. So short team they reduced the level of noise around the organization and saved some money but have hampered their rebuild. The only teams that should be looking short term are teams with really serious chance at winning the cup, all others need to be looking 3-7 years out.

Why not? Isles brought in Eberle because he's Tavares' good friend and look how that turned out!

A KHL team should have made an offer. Or maybe Swedish Elite League!
