Excellent article detailing Cassidy's approach to D......If you have an Athletic membership (which I only do for a few more weeks).

That's a great article--Fluto's a pretty good get by the Athletic.

I always love a more aggressive approach to defense, but I feel like that particular system mainly works because Boston has a few elite two-way forwards, and their D is pretty talented as well. Give that system to Edmonton and it'd be a disaster.

I was taught as a defenseman to go no further than my own blue line if possible, back in any further and you're just screening your own goalie. It's remarkable just how many systems and defenders in the NHL do exactly that.
