Been a while since we've had a new thread in here. Anyone down on them after Rinne imploded in the playoffs? They have one more year of him before they hand the keys to Saros.

Grinder and middling former 1st rounder Austin Watson might also be gonzo after assaulting his wife. At least I hope they take the opportunity to cut him.

They've spent a lot in recent times but they actually have a lot of cap room this year to add a big name (Poile likes doing that) and can now comfortably re-sign Ellis, who's a UFA after the season. Fiala took a step forward last season and Tolvanen should be a Calder candidate. Turris struggled to score in the playoffs but they don't seem down on him. Sissons and Jarnkrok are elite checkers at this point.

And of course Forsberg might be the offensive star they've been looking for since their inception. Could notch 80 points if he stays healthy.

Forsberg-Johansen-Arvidsson
Fiala-Turris-Smith
Tolvanen-Bonino-Hartman
Jarnkrok-Sissons-Salomaki

Josi-PK
Ekholm-Ellis
Hamhuis-who cares

Rinnos

They looked very beatable in the postseason. Honestly, they should've curb-stomped the Avs, instead they drew it out to six games. If Bernier hadn't been even worse than Rinne it might've gone seven, or worse.

Yes, they look like a fast, balanced team with depth to spare and an elite blueline corps, and their pipeline still isn't done spitting out potential stars (Fabbro and Tolvanen look like they're next). But something still seems...off. I've said ad nauseam that you need an elite 1-2 punch down the middle to be a true contender (and shut up about Chicago, Kane is a center, I don't care where he lines up for faceoffs) and while Johansen and Turris are very good, are they elite? I don't think so.

Also, for all his genius, Poile still makes dumb mistakes. He obviously regrets the whole Mike Ribeiro fiasco, and had no reason whatsoever to give a dime-a-dozen grinder like Austin Watson term or give up a 1st rounder for Ryan effing Hartman, and now inexplicably brought aboard Zac Rinaldo, whom I'm fairly certain was the worst player in the National Hockey League last year.

You knew Poile wouldn't let Ellis get to free agency: 8 years, 6.25M AAV.

He's good, and you can afford to overpay with Josi and Ek making a pittance for years to come, but I doubt he'll hold up for the length of the deal.

No trade protection--sets up an interesting scenario for Nashville in the event of another expansion draft in 2020 or so.

Austin Watson suspended 27 games for hitting his wife.

Hmmmmm...I mean that's a pretty hefty suspension. But still not nearly enough when you consider Nate Schmidt got seven less games for a ridiculously minute amount of a banned substance in his bloodstream.

No, not really surprising, except for the fact that he plead no contest.

Calder candidate Eeli Tolvanen sent to Milwaukee. Fat, probably.

Pekka Rinne surprisingly re-signs for two more years. The transition to Saros will take a little longer, I guess.

Meanwhile, the Preds are in first and Johansen/Turris is finally looking like a legit 1-2 combo down the middle.

Still strange to me that this team is wasting so very much time with absolute cretins like Austin Watson and Zac Rinaldo, but I suppose when your core is that good, you have some leeway.

Preds are still winning, even though Forsberg, Subban, Arvidsson and Turris have all missed time.

I expect them to dangle Tolvanen for some current roster help. He can probably score if given a chance, but when you're a deep team it can be hard to warrant the ice time.

Moar grit added for the stretch run: Boyle and McLeod.

McLeod's re-acquisition just seems like Poile is doing a solid for a well-liked guy. He's well past his expiration date, but he never moved his family out of Nashville after being acquired by the Rangers and reportedly said it was kinda difficult having to shuttle back and forth to see his wife and kids. I doubt he sees much, if any ice time in the playoffs...but he may get a ring out of it, so good for him.

Adding Boyle is a masterstroke though.

They're going for it so hard it hurts. Granlund and Simmonds added, Fiala and Hartman subtracted.

Dante Fabbro leaves Uni to sign an entry level deal in Smashville.

They could use some energy.

I'm still completely baffled as to how a team that has so many cannons from the point and talented forwards who have no issues whatsoever getting in dirty areas and crashing the net can be so utterly horrid on the power play.

Shockingly, NO ONE gets dinged for the Preds' disappointing finish and league-worst power play. By all indications Laviolette fell on his sword. If Nashville disappoints again, he'll be joining his assistants in unemployment.

Likely big changes coming for the Yellowshirts. Word has it P.K. has gots to go with the big extension for Ellis kicking in and Josi due for a big raise.
