An interesting question posed by acclaimed comics writer Jonathan Hickman.

Quote:
You are only allowed to take one album with you on an interstellar journey that will stray off course and be engulfed by a star after 10 years.

It cannot be a 'best of,' cannot be by Sinead O'Conner, must contain songs with words, and you must listen to it each day.

Choose.

I love that he just ruled out Sinead by default.

My response:

Quote:
Peter Gabriel - 2nd Album

As the Star engulfs me in glowing, radiant pain, “White Shadow” plays in the background.

But actually, I may have to change my answer...much as I love that song, "A Wonderful Day in a One-Way World" would be far more fitting.

But is there any other song to be engulfed to than Eclipse from Dark Side of the Moon?

I'm reading a delightfully scathing review of a Justin Timberlake concert in Montreal. You should read it too. The author is someone you know.

I'm not on Facebook, but apparently the Gazette's page was a warzone yesterday. Mostly friends and colleagues on Twitter, and they dug it.

I have been on a gigantic retro Synthwave binge on Pandora and am loving it. Wife absolutely hates it though.

Some decent acts if you're interested:

OGRE (not to be confused with the metal act "Ogre")
Timecop!
Perturbator
College
Copter
Power Glove (these guys are probably the most well-known in the genre, they're not my favorite though)
Lazerhawk

Also, I'm sure you've already seen/heard of it, but Childish Gambino's latest, "This is America" is out on YouTube and you really should watch it.

When I watched it a few times youtube started feeding me links to videos of people reacting to the video and wow. Some people reacting literally came down to "and we are dancing" what did he just do? five seconds of shock and thought".....and we are dancing again woohoo he is so cool.

Interesting. I like the Gambino. Hadn't watched that until right now. Wish he had more references to the controlling system in there but guns work better. Nice to see some power and thought put into the imagery. Almost missed the guy in a suit jumping.....Good Video.

A couple of oldies but goodies heard on the radio lately:

Can't believe that this album is 25 years old now.

This song is about 23 years old now, but this 2003 Montreal show recording is like the definitive version of this song, including the extra verse.

Thanks for this. My son at 19 has an appreciation for Jazz that usually doesn't happen until your late 40's or 50's or not at all.

I sent this over to him.

Strangely I don't do the Canadian artists thing on purpose...it just happens......
