Definitely thought a guy with that name went to an ivy league school.

And Dahlen takes top award in Sweden's 2nd highest league.

Didn't Dipietro win OHL player of the year as well?

Jeff Marek no doubt made some NHL fans sweat by claiming he knows of a highly-touted 1st round draft pick of a "prominent" NHL club (whatever the hell that means) is ruining his career due to a video game addiction. Rumor has it the prospect Marek is referring to is Olli Juolevi. Of course this doesn't pass the smell test because Marek says one of his sources is a junior coach, and Juolevi is playing pro in Finland. And even if it was him, a lot of people are saying this is a crock of shit, some of the league's best players play INSANE amounts of Fortnite/Overwatch/Whatever online. I believe Patrik Laine is a very avid gamer. I mean really, these guys' lives are basically playing hockey and preparing for hockey, so they spend their off-time either playing console games, listening to really bad music, and obsessively watching The Bachelor (many players on the Avs can't get enough of that particular show  ). I suppose it's better than them getting into trouble at the local strip club.

I'm not concerned. Joulevi had a a good season in Finland, and his 2nd half was excellent. Not sure he'll be a top pairing guy but should at least be a solid 3/4 dman.

Nucks sign 2017 sixth-rounder Petrus Palmu. Only 5'6!

Joulevi out 8-10 weeks with micro disc back surgery. Not ideal considering his coach Sami Salo publicly stated that he needs to be in much better shape if he wants to make the team next season.

Patrick O'Sullivan said he was faced with a similar back ailment and opted not to undergo surgery because he was told it might not make anything better. :|

Canucks really just need to keep that damned pick and get a defenseman. It's like all their eggs are in Juolevi's basket, and he may yet be a solid D-man, but there needs to be more. This Hanifin nonsense is just that...not that it'd stop Benning.

If Linden can't save Benning from himself then he only has himself to blame. They've been pretty clear to the media that they are steadfast with their intention of building through the draft -- but saying one thing and doing another is becoming the obvious hallmark of the current organization and all indications from around the league are that the 7th pick is most definitely in play.

A fun but completely pointless exercise, mock drafts. This one has the Nucks taking center Trevor Zegras from the USNTDP. One of the few players in this draft I got to see play live for two games. You likely won't be disappointed--he played 3rd/4th line minutes on an insanely stacked Team USA (some kid named Jack Hughes got most of the playing time) but still managed to stand out and get a few points.

Canucks sign NCSS free agent goalie Jake Kelly. Looks like a very good collegiate signing.

Interesting read on the Canucks' farm team and their inability to develop NHL players.

Canuck's draft Vasil Podkolzin

The bad, have to wait 2 years for Russian contract to expire, and there was far more range in the mock draft assessments for him than anyone else, from #2 to #28.

The Good: Fast feet, quick accurate hands, nasty edge, 100% compete level all the time, plays equally well in all 3 zones

https://canucksarmy.com/2019/06/20/2019 ... podkolzin/

Consolidated draft list was number 3 pick as well. https://canucksarmy.com/2019/05/17/2019 ... -may-2019/

I'd like this pick at #5, love it at #10. It's elite players that win cups. If there is a choice between drafting a projected blue chip 2nd or 3rd line player or the guy that will either be a star or career minor leaguer I'd rather take a chance on the latter than the former.

I also like it as I think the Canucks can aim for 1st round playoff this year if they choose to but I don't think they should. They'd just get bounced right away. Take another year or two and then go for the big trade or free agents. This pick with the two year wait indicates Benning may think the same thing. fingers-crossed on this

2nd round pick at #40 is Swede Nils Hoglander. Wings Nation had him as #21 overall. Nice writeup for small but high skill player.

Podkolzin may be a big risk, may not even bother coming to NHL.

Quote:
According to Elite Prospects he is signed with SKA through the end of the 2020-21 season. There have also been rumours that he could stay in Russia even longer. With SKA being one of the richest teams in the KHL, they can pay him more than he could earn on an NHL ELC. He is clearly the third best talent in this draft but those concerns could cause a draft day fall.

Still at #10 I think its worth it to take the big swing.

He's said his dream is to play in the NHL, I think it's relatively guaranteed he will make the jump, the question is only when. And really, if it's two years that's about in line with a lot of top prospects. I think it could happen sooner, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I like the pick, and I think if there weren't KHL concerns he likely would've been a top five guy. He has ye olde "enigmatic" label but the skillset is just too good to pass up.

Didn't know he had said that his dream was to play in the NHL. That's a big positive. And although it sounds like he might be able to make the jump right into the NHL now, it won't hurt him to mature for two years and means he'll be 27 not 25 when he hits FA.
