Hate that this idiotic division-centric format has most of the more intriguing matchups at the beginning.

Preds in 5
Jets in 6
Kings in 7
Sharks in 6

Bolts in 6
Bruins in 7
Caps in 6
Pens in 4

Yes - on the flip side, round one is some of the best hockey and there's loads of it and no one is gassed yet.

The second round might have Caps vs. Pens, Preds vs. Jets (they clobbered each other in the regular season) and whatever happens in the Smythe will be amazing.

Even TB vs. Boston would have some bad blood.

Bolts in 5.
Bruins in 6.
Caps in 6.
Pens in 7. These teams really hate each other, as do the fans. I have no idea if it will really go that long, but I sure hope so.

Preds in 5 (sorry Av)
Jets in 6.
Kings in 7 (just think Cinderella will lose the shoe)
Sharts in 7.

And the Oilers will win the draft lottery, because, don't they have to?

ROUND 1

Eastern Conference

(1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs. (W) New Jersey Devils Tampa in 5.
(2) Boston Bruins vs. (3) Toronto Maple Leafs Bruins in 7. Toronto was surprisingly overlooked this season while having their best season in a very long time....they have the coaching edge and this one is going to be tough for the Bs.
------------------------------------------------
(1) Washington Capitals vs. (W) Columbus Blue Jackets Blue Jackets in 7........Caps are habitual chokers and Ovechkin is a sensational individual contributor. Unfortunately the NHL Playoffs are about team play.
(2) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (3) Philadelphia Flyers Pens in 5 Syd is awesome and he knows how to play on a team.

Western Conference

(1) Nashville Predators vs. (W) Colorado Avalanche Preds in 4. Well the Avs made the postseason.
(2) Winnipeg Jets vs. (3) Minnesota Wild Jets in 4. No Suter no way.
------------------------------------------------
(1) Vegas Golden Knights vs. (W) LA Kings Kings in 6. Cinderella run ends for Vegas back to reality next year.
(2) Anaheim Ducks vs. (3) San Jose San Jose in 7. At least one southern california team will leave early.

Surprised there's not more support for the Knights. They just spent an entire season defying logic and the Kings don't have Muzzin/Forbort.

I also think their home advantage is real.

ROUND 1

Eastern Conference

(1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs. (W) New Jersey Devils Tampa 5, think they use this round to make back some momentum they have lost.
(2) Boston Bruins vs. (3) Toronto Maple Leafs Boston seven. appears to be a good match up for Leafs, but Boston uses the home ice to pull it off.
------------------------------------------------
(1) Washington Capitals vs. (W) Columbus Blue Jackets Caps 6, Just do not trust Bob in playoffs...hope I am wrong.
(2) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (3) Philadelphia Flyers Pittsburgh 5. good match up for them and will not be complacent playing Flyers.
Western Conference

(1) Nashville Predators vs. (W) Colorado Avalanche Nash 5. give the Av's a game do to expect one stinker from Rinne.
(2) Winnipeg Jets vs. (3) Minnesota Wild Jets 4, Unless the young goalie chokes do not see this close.
------------------------------------------------
(1) Vegas Golden Knights vs. (W) LA Kings Kings 6...go ahead prove me wrong yet again.
(2) Anaheim Ducks vs. (3) San Jose Ducks 7, little thought or reason... in bed before games are done not vested so whatever.

Jets seemed to be a darling pick for the Stanley Cup final in 14-15 by a few in the media but I didn't think they'd do much and in the predictions figured that they'd lose to the Ducks.

I don't have this fondness for the Jets that everyone else seems to have. I'm glad hockey is back there and all, and that they've made the playoffs, but I just don't feel much for them either way. I'm more disappointed that the Ducks didn't lose than I am the Jets lost. I figured that Anaheim would win this series. Jets coughed up a lead in every single game. That's bad news. Were they just sitting on one-goal leads? Did Pavelec revert back to himself?

They feel a lot more for real to me this time around.

Leafs-Boston is a hard one. Gonna take the Leafs but I feel like this could be a weird, short series, either team, blowout or close.

LA lots of experience but Vegas, man.

Fuck the Ducks.

I'd have to agree with Jeff on the Jets. I chose to watch several Jets games this year and most every time I was impressed with their team game/hard style. Especially towards the end of the year. They are definitely improved this year and I think they make some noise. I usually try to pick a matchup I wouldn't normally watch and this year I am going to be following the Jets.

On the Knights....they are going to have to beat a veteran southern Cali team for me to take them as legit. LA is their measuring stick.

Strange all these people looking past the Leafs. I think they have a very solid chance of beating the Bruins in round one. In fact the only two teams I picked that could beat the Bruins in the east were the Leafs and Pittsburgh.

The Knights sort of sputtered down the stretch though -- but agree it will be tough for just Doughty and Martinez to contain the team speed of the Knights. The Kings did, however, allow the fewest goals in the league and have a very stifling playoff style. If they split the first two games, I would give the advantage to the Kings. If the Knights hold serve, they should take it.

I really wanted to pick them, and I hope they win it all at this point. But I just think the Kings still have vets who've been through it, and the Knights will choke. Fleury- you just never know... He could put up a shutout in 3/5 games and they win the round. Or he could let the Kings mascot go 5-hole on him 6 times/game. It's a total crap shoot (bad Vegas pun fully intended).

Since the refs just pocket the whistles (as evidenced by letting glorified face puncher Nick Seeler flat-out tackle Mathieu Perreault in the Wylde/Jets game without a call tonight) I'm guessing the Kings will have the advantage. They still have a team that can very much play that kind of hockey.
