Not a bad deal for either. He could prove he can still play. Maybe. This time...

The Canucks ostensibly just bought a mid-round draft pick (hopefully) in acquiring Vanek.

Been really quite impressed with Vanek. Can we re-up him for another year? He and Eriksson have made that second unit PP look dangerous, he seems to make things happen whenever he has the puck inside the opposing blue line. Points now in 5 straight games. Mid-round draft pick or higher if they can't re-sign him.

At this point, I really wish Benning had signed Tommy Gunn for three years instead of Sam Gagner...

Columbus apparently can't score on the power play without him, so maybe a deal can be made to flip him back.

Well, Green hasn't figured out how to use Gagner; if they can flip him back, I'd be all for that. If Goldobin can stick, and with Petterson and Dahlen coming up, Gagner long-term seems silly... Find a new mailing address for Burmistrov, too, especially with Sutter coming back eventually.

Goldobin / Horvat / Boeser
Baertschi / Granlund / Vanek
Daniel / Henrik / Erikkson ($20M line!!)
Gaunce / Gagner / Virtanen
(Burmistrov)

It's bittersweet that Goldobin's opportunity arose only because DD of retirement. I understand that Vanek will probably yield a better return but he's been fun to watch in most games.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Gagner now that Horvat is hurt, speculation is that he'll be tried centering Boeser and Goldobin, maybe that will bring him to life. You're right Vanek has been fun to watch, a much better signing then I thought it would be.

Anyone see the Kovalchuk quote calling Vanek a “cocaine vacuum” at the last Olympics?
