Why bother...you really really wanted that second rounder? Maybe the kid wanted out I guess but otherwise this seems like another chest thumping assertion of will move for Chiarelli.

Three first overall picks, now only one left. And they don't seem too keen on him either.

They don't seem too keen on McDavid???

Or do you mean 4 1st overalls, and they're not enamored with Nugent-Hopkins?

Oh shit I forgot about McDavid.

Maybe it was because I blocked it out of my head that a team in a weighted lottery system could possibly come out with that many effin' 1st overall picks. You know how many times the Nuggets had the greatest odds (they did at least once, I'm sure there were other times) to win 1st overall in the NBA draft and NEVER FUCKING WON IT?

Yeah...I meant they don't seem to be building around RNH. He's a perfectly good player but I just get the feeling he'll be shipped out sooner or later.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet but the Oil decided to use the cap savings in the Yak deal to sign Kris "Bad Corsi" Russell to a 1-year deal.

So...ladies and gentlemen, your 2016-17 Edmonton Oilers:

Milan Lucic - Captain McDavid - Jordan Eberle
Benoit Pouliot - Leon Draisaitl - Jesse Puliujarvi
Patrick Maroon - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Zack Kassian
Anton Slepyshev - Mark Letestu - Tyler Pitlick

Oscar Klefbom - Adam Larsson
Andrej Sekera - Mark Fayne
Kris Russell - Brandon Davidson

Cam Talbot
Monstrous GAA

Well, not bad really, that top six is pretty good...but what's up with that "checking" line?

Oh and I forgot that Kris Versteeg is still there on a PTO.

You. Forgot. McDavid???

GO TO THE BOX, AND FEEL SHAME!

I read your original post there & thought I was going crazy. I knew they had more than just 3 1sts. I'm surprised it's that few.

I don't hate the Russell signing. It's not long-term and he can soak up some minutes.

According to things I've read, Puljujärvi so far looks like he's not ready for the NHL. It would be a mistake to keep him.

The Oil look dangerous and are clearly NOT blowing it anymore.

Their post season success will largely depend on goaltending and how their opposition plan to contain McJesus.

Imagine you're Connor McDavid and your GM just traded away a top line scoring winger to free up cap room to re-sign Kris Russell to a multi-year contract extension worth around $4 million per.

Yikes. How did Chiarelli ever win a Cup?

What's Conn Conn going to be worth when he re-negotiates next year? Like $14mill?

Pouliot bought out. A silly signing from an era when it didn't matter.

Today, they need all the cap room they can find to give McDavid his 13M AAV.

I know how good McDavid is, but that's insane money. I'll bet Snow wants to punch Chiarelli for that one.

In terms of percentage of cap this is actually no different than Crosby's megadeal a few years back.

And in terms of common sense it's still waaaay better than Kris Russell at $4 mil per

Get ready for a qualifying offer to Draisaitl. What's he worth -- $10 mill in the new world order?

Agreed on both points. I still think the Pens are nuts for putting such a high % into Crosby, Malkin, Fleury (okay he's gone now, but you get the point), Kessel and Letang. But clearly it's worked pretty well for them, and makes it more clear that I don't know shit about being an NHL GM.
But I still think Snow is going to shit pickles over that, as all the rumors had been Snow was going to offer Tavares 8 years at 9-10 million. I think this raises that bar.
I also just always think great players should take a little less than they're worth so the team can get them a better supporting cast and make the team better overall. But again, I'm obviously wrong on this. I guess the attitude of great players is that they only get so long to make huge money, and them being on the team should make the supporting cast willing to take less to play with them.

I really think the Edmonton Oilers are going to demolish everyone this season. It's a star league and they have the biggest star of all. He could lead the Art Ross race by 30 points.
