The Leafs appear to have what is likely a quiet off season if season ending interviews are to be taken at face value and they are not rushing anything.

UFA's include Brian Boyle who I believe will be replace internally by The Goat. Roman Polak and Matt Hunwick who seem 50/50 depending on if they sign or promote a guy they think is a long term D solution. Finally McElhinney seems as good a candidate as any for backup again as he will be cheap and they know he fits in the room.

RFA's are Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, and Zaitsev. All where given significant responsibility last season and there success was a key to the Leafs surprise season all be it over shadowed by the big three rookies they played with. Lots of raises to go around will guess something like annual deals for brown and Hyman around 2.5/per and Zaitsev around 4m/per.

Interestingly their top four AHL forwards for points where Rychel, Leipsic, and Johnson who are all 22 yrs old then Kapanan at 20. Then on D they had Nielsen and Dermott as the top two point producing D-men who are twenty. They seem to be leaning on young players and they are delivering which should bode well for them being able to add the depth players internally that good teams need to be able to do in the NHL.

Zaitsev signs at 4.5per for 7 years. Little more than I thought and long but only takes him too 32yrs old.

Nylander was MVP for the World Cup, good for him. Not sure where to place expectations for him next year but sounds like him and Mathews will remain an on ice pair for Babcock so expect some big points production..well bigger than last year, which would be alot.

17th pick is Timothy Liljegren a RH D that drips in potential that entered the season as a projected top three pick. No doubt dropped for reasons as the season went on, but if he gets it together he could be the type of addition that puts the Leafs over the top in a few years. Guess this is the cliche fell in their lap pick high end potential at the area of greatest need.

Marleau. Three years and is 38 yrs old. As long as he is healthy which he has a history of it should not fall into disastrous signing territory, but could see it being a less than ideal contract in year 3 if not 2. I guess my concern is not with the player himself but that next off season they may have to pass on a better age and fit upgrade due to this money being spent already. Will be interested to see where they slot him in as he could be shot gun to Mathews and Nylander.

Hainsey. Two years and 36 yrs old. More veteran presence and is a needed NHL ready D. Replaces Hunwick I guess not much to say on it more or less think it is a lateral movement thing for the Leafs.

Moore. One year one million. Like this one, great 4th liner for this team with experience and good price.

guess the signing may indicate a desire raise depth and completion for NHL spots for the youth that are knocking like Gauthier, Dermott, Kapannen and Euro signings. The Leafs will likely need that depth as they are unlikely to repeat last years exceptional healthy team situation.

I hate the fact that people are already treating it as a two-year deal.

Most are making the assumption that Marleau is destined for that LW spot alongside Matthews and Nylander, I'm not so sure. Hyman was a pretty good fit on that line, though obviously not productive in his own right.

great goaltending and opportunistic offense in first game for 7-2 win in the Peg. Good to get the win, but hard to judge how the team played.

Leafs got pounded pretty good the first 5+ minutes(what I watched) of the 1st.

15 goals in two games. Totally see them keeping that pace. So much offensive depth over the top three lines, which is kinda cool you don't have to load the minutes up on anybody.

They do see to take a 15 minute break off every game, hopefully they tighten the screws on that nasty habit. They can outscore a lot of defensive issues as a team but no harm on reducing the need too.
