Got to hang with Darryl "DMC" McDaniels yesterday and he was incredibly nice and generous with his time.

New Kanye. Yeezus' production was damn near perfect, in my opinion, so The Life of Pablo feels like a bit of a letdown. Some great tracks on it, though. Solid post-trifecta era Kanye, who has lost something in the rapping department but still knows how to put together a solid tune.

I agree. This new one is in rotation for me as well. FML is the only track that jumps out at me and Ultralight Beam is well done but the album overall feels hurried and rushed. Perhaps Kanye was preoccupied with his new family as some of the stuff on the album should have been cut. "I Love Kanye" is a narcissist's dream. And the Charly Wingate piece is bizarre (Silver Surfer). The last 3 songs on the album feel like void fillers.

Kanye historically is not the best lyricist but he seems to have digressed even further on this album with lines like:

Quote:
Sometimes I'm wishin' that my dick had GoPro
So I could play that shit back in slo-mo

or

Quote:
Now if I fuck this model
And she just bleached her asshole
And I get bleach on my T-shirt
I'mma feel like an asshole

Not to mention his continuing hard on for Taylor Swift (play let it go here).

Lyrics like this are all over the album. It just seems unnecessary and at some point i'd like to see Yeezy mature lyrically but maybe that day will never come.

Overall its ok and in keeping with his "every other album is damn good" track record (Yeezus being much better than this new one).

Few days ago was looking into the use of Cello in "fiddle" music as my daughter may do some summer Cello lessons with a fiddle player and now I can not stop listening to this song and others similar.

It took me a while to come around to it, but lately I've been bumping the new Tame Impala hard.

You gotta be in the right mood for synth-y, slow paced psychedelic stuff.

LOVE that kind of music. Washed Out is another act I dig in that same sort of "genre."

Obviously been on a huge Prince binge of late, but how in hell did I not hear of Haelos until now?

I'm in the middle of trying to make a perfect hour-long playlist. Not sure what that entails, except no weakspots.

So far:

"From Your Mouth" by God Lives Underwater
"Kung Fu" by Ash
"Superstylin" by Groove Armada
"Buzzin" by Asian Dub Foundation
"All That I Wanted" by Belfegore
"Wipe That Sound" by Mouse on Mars
"Faul" by Jeans Team

Reunited my Pinkerton CD with its original case after about 15 years apart in various storage situations. Bought that bad boy in 1996 and it still sounds like a million bucks.

Wow, Prince has a vault that contains thousands of unreleased songs?

Why not? Tupac had like 2 albums come out after his death and he wasn't relevant for anywhere near the time Prince was.

In this talk about meeting Prince Kevin Smith claims a Prince producer said he had upwards of 50 unreleased music videos in the vault. 28:30 is where he talks about it.

Don't get too excited about hearing or seeing any of the songs or videos, anytime soon. Unfortunately, for fans, it will take years to decades to hear those songs. For all of Prince's well-known desire to own and control his music and his image, he did not leave a will or a trust. This will keep the lawyers and interested parties tied up in court for ages.

Maybe not leaving a will or trust was done for that reason - to tie it all up for ages and prevent someone from doing anything for a long time

Wonder if the Youtube cover band/singer world is going to take their chance that Prince covers will not get taken down now?

He was too much of a control freak. I can't see him doing that although I do get your humour. Unfortunately, this could allow a distant family member, who didn't even know Prince, to gain control of his song catalogue and sell it to a record company, Prince fought for decades to regain control of his master tapes from Warner Brothers. Jimi Hendrix's estate was fought over for the better part of 4 decades and he left a will. If Ian were still about he could better explain the shit storm that is heading for Prince's estate.
