Lakovic goes after some jackwagon in Edmonton who dumped a beer on Claude Lapointe circa 96-97.

Theo's celebration after his game 6 OT winner against the Oil back in 91 in the first round of the playoffs. The Flames would go on to lose Game 7 and not make the playoffs the following season.

Yet another clincher from Gelinas in OT 2004 to take out the Wings. Hard to believe its been 12 years since that team.

Gelinas no goal in 2004 game 6 SCF Vs Tampa.......even if it was a distinct kicking motion....it deserved better treatment than what it got. That wonderful Flames team would be a casualty of the lockout the following year and never see redemption.

Phaneuf plants Hamel. Love this hit. The Dion had such promise in the first few years. I used to love the way he hunted people in open ice. I also love the Okposo hit.

Used to be such a thing as keeping your head up in the NHL but those days are gone as is the Dion's career.

That took me by complete surprise, why would you not be a huge Iggy fan? He could fight, hit, skate, great shot. I would have thought you of all people would consider him to be the exact model of the perfect hockey player.

As I write this I stare at a Pinnacle hockey can that sits (and has sat for many years) on my desk....with a very young Jarome Iginla on it.

Let's not forget at the the time when the Flames traded for Iggy in 1995 after the 48 game cluster fuck season Joe Nieuwendyk was a hell of a player and the Captain of the Flames. The Flames hadn't completely entered into the rebuilding cycle yet from the cup but they were forced along due to the NEW NHL after the 1st lockout (miss you Joel Otto!). Gary Roberts (my favorite player along side Cam and Theo) was in the process of calling it quits as well. Naturally I gravitated to Theo as my next favorite Flame.

This trade (and the inability to hold on to FAs financially) signaled the end of the old guard and the beginning of the Young guns and moving threats......as the Flames stunk up the joint during the late 1990's.

In hindsight Iginla is a great player and was the heart and soul of the team for years. I did enjoy the way he played sometimes (he and Lecavalier fighting is pretty bad ass) and he is a class act. Right or wrong I always thought Jarome was inconsistent at times and preferred to let others do the work down low for him. He had his best years with a hard worker at center (that's you Craig!). At the end of the day his numbers don't lie so whatever he was doing I suppose he's done it well. I don't know why I never fully embraced him (or bought a jersey)....I lost a lot of faith in the organization in the 90s and I just expected him to leave at some point so I don't suppose its anything personal.

I do wish he would come back home to Calgary and ride wing with Sean and Johnny for one last go.

What an amazing player to watch. For a little while there at least he was the best player in the NHL. His disastrous stint with the Avs still leaves a sour taste in my mouth but that's obviously not all on him.

Thought he already retired. Did he even play last season?

No, skated a bit near the deadline to see if any teams would bite, but no one did. I imagine he was waiting for that before finally, officially hanging 'em up.
