if it was a Canadian phone, and telus, i probably would have picked up for that price, as long as its the 9700+ model

If you unlock it, it'll work fine. Everyone except Mobilicty/Wind/Videotron in Canada or Sprint in the U.S. is GSM these days, aren't they?
